1 Barber, insanely nice facility. Makes VIR look ghetto
2 VIR north, makes Summit Point look ghetto
3 BeaveRun, dragging a knee at 100+ is pretty cool
4 VIR south
5 Summit Main, it may move up the list after the repave, have to wait till next year
6 Road Atlanta, lots of elevation change to keep you thinking
7 Loudon, those walls SUCK! Use of garages is nice
8 Pocono East, if you can deal with the bumps on this track ALL other tracks are smooth.
9 Summit Jefferson, tight little track that kicks my ass
10 Pocono FUSA, better than the street but just never learned to love it.

1. Donington Park, England
2. Vir North course
3. Daytona
4. NHIS Loudon

Donington - Motogp and SBK track. Very flowing lines. A couple of tight tight turns and a couple of VERY fast parts. Billiard table smooth. All in all what you would expect from a world-class track. Be careful in the rain though (and it rains a lot there). The jets coming into the local airport jettison fuel vapor over the track coming in to land and when it rains you're riding on kerosene. Very very slippery. Runoff for miles! Don't be surprised if a motogp or world/british superbike rider joins you out on the track in fast group. Happened to me nearly every time I rode there. Many of them live close by and they show up on their personal bikes for some low-pressure track time.

Points to watch for? Overshooting schwantz into McLeans, wicked off camber turn called Hollywood. Little bump under the Dunlop Bridge that will send your front wheel skyward at 140mph if you're not on the front of the bike. Most trackdays there bypass the Melbourne hairpin (slow slow corner) and the Fogarty esses.

Track map link

VIR North- Relatively smooth. Couple of transitions and a couple of turns with rough pavement if you are off-line. Not too demanding, but it does have a nice rollercoaster that when you get it right, fires you onto the front straight like a missile. 600 bikes can max out on the front straight which has a wicked dog-leg halfway down. 160mph leaned over right is a rush. Turn 4 is like the bowl as far as entry is concerned, go deep deep deep then bang it hard left. The turn is deceptively tight and slow. Mess up turn 4 and it's goodnight for turns 5 and 5a.Turn 7 is very off-camber (think turn 4 at Loudon) so steady throttle is the key there. Flat out from turn 8 to turn 14 will get you knee-down in 10 at over 70mph. 140mph between turn 5a and the bridge too! I love this track but it's very tiring to ride.

Daytona - What can you say? One of the most famous racetracks in the world. you can sense the history when you are there. Big? Lake Lloyd in the middle of the speedway is 29 acres. Not too technical, but full throttle on the banking is something every track rider should experience. Watch for fog in the West Banking early in the morning. Miss a gear on the back stretch chicane and you could lose half a mile on the guy in front of you. Stay as high on the 31 degree banking as you can to catapult you onto the straights in the right place on the rack. Don't slow down on a cool down lap. Less than 60mph can see you slide down the banking.

NHIS Loudon - We all know this one. Very technical low-speed track with lumps, bumps and nice elevation changes. Turns 12 and 2 are lowsides waiting to happen. Turn 3 is every racer's nightmare. Careful on the gas in turn 4, it's off-camber.

Oooh, I wanna play!! In order from least fav to fav:

9. Pocono East - kinda like bad sex that's still good b/c it's sex, after all. Just glad it was my first, before I realized how great sex - errrr, I mean, a track - could really be!!
8. Firebird, AZ - forget which course it was, but it was smooth and fast and a blast to try on Code's 636.
7. VIR Patriot - Loudon's counterpart in the south, with smoother pavement.
6. Grattan counter-clockwise - Looks like poop but quirky and fun as all get-out.
5. Grattan clockwise - Still looks like poop but still quirky and fun as all get-out. A bit more intuitive than running it in the opposite direction.
4. VIR Full - holy acorns! but fun! fastest speeds that my 749s ever hit were here.
3. Loudon - I wish I knew how to quit you. I love this little bitch!!
2. Barber - smmoooth, but too easy to keep you honest (e.g. you can royally screw up and still be fine . . . gave me less incentive to nail every turn perfectly.)
1. Calabogie - the. best. ever.

I try to hit at least one new track every year . . . next year I'd like to hit Mt. Tremblant and NJMP, would love to also try BeaverRun.

for Firebird, what was pit out like and could you see the highway? i can tell you which track it was. if pit out was down a hill then you were on the West track, if you could see the highway as you went down the front straight that was East. if the front straight was 1/2 a mile ling and on a dragstrip then you were on Main.

It wasn't Main - it sat below a parking area (where we did the slide bike drills) and there was a road that paralleled the back straight. Super flat!!

Re: Rate that Track

3. Sugar Hill Speedway : simple track. Just really for Minis though. I couldn't see a real bike trying to tackle it.

2. Loudon: I've really only just started to realize how frightening it is,thanks to the 600. Still, very fun. Kinda gets repetitive after pretty much racing on it exclusively.

1. Daytona: Maybe it's just the awesome intimidation factor when you first go through the tunnel, or going flat out full throttle for what seems like an hour. Smooth as glass, not very technical. But I loved it. Watching the local racers slow down through the dogleg made me laugh. Out-braking the entire amateur field into the chicane did too. Loudon definitely trains racers better than most tracks, I think. Can't wait till the ROC this year!

Updated for Lightning and a repeat visit to 'Bogie . . .

10. Pocono East - unlikely to go back now that the new kid (NJMP) is in town.
9. Firebird, AZ (West?) - smooth and fast and a blast to try on Code's 636.
8. VIR Patriot - Loudon's counterpart in the south, with smoother pavement.
7. Lightning - Had the slipper clutch installed just in time to take on T7.
6. Grattan counter-clockwise - Looks like poop but quirky and fun as all get-out.
5. Grattan clockwise - Still looks like poop but still quirky and fun as all get-out. A bit more intuitive than running it in the opposite direction.

Looking forward to adding T-bolt later this year. Anybody else have updates??

Re: Rate that Track

1. Thunderbolt - NJMS - This track rocks it for me. Fast, flowing, a few elevation changes, 140mph as you hit the main straight, all that and no fee to get in the gate.

2. NHMS - Hey it's the home track and it teaches you how to handle technical stuff. Valuble for picking up tough areas at other tracks.

3. Pocono - Used to be a great mix of speed and technical stuff. I've heard it's deteriated quite a bit lately and is really bumpy. I loved it a few years ago nonetheless. It had a little of everything except elevation changes.

4. Daytona - Hey, it's Daytona but for me a little less fun than the others. The infield is a little challenging with the off camber horseshoe, but overall just a wicked flat out hp track. It's great to experience that rush, but as a true roadrace track I'd prefer Thunderbolt even if it is a lot smaller.
