    Re: rear brake

I have heard a lot of the motard guys say they drag it to keep the front settled especially in 9 and when driving out of turns to keep the line tight

I personally don't use it on either bike but I've never really felt comfortable enough to try

Rick Breen just looks at the rear brake and scares it into submission.

    Re: rear brake

    Not I.

I'm still improving as it is without it. But as I know of it's benefits, if/when I plateau I'll probably begin experimenting with it in practice and try to incorporate it into my bag-o-tricks... but until then I'll likely leave it alone.

    Re: rear brake

Rear brake is beneficial once your really going into the turns deep on the gas and need to shed more speed in a shorter distance....way beyond where my riding skill is.
I find that if I do use it sometimes going into T3 it will help settle the rear tire (or at least it feels like it does)
If your going to start using your rear brake its a good idea to put an air bubble in the brake line so that its not so touchy and you won't lock up the rear brake.

    Re: rear brake

It's mostly useful for getting the rear to squat a bit, which settles the bike. It also stabilizes the bike by essentially "pulling" the rear of the bike to keep it in line with the front tire (let's hope the front tire is pointed where you want it )

To do this requires that you apply the rear brake just before the front brake, then ease off of it as you brake harder with the front. Sound complicated? It is. Which is why I generally don't use the rear brake.

Curious... can you help me understand how having a slipper effects use of the rear brake?

I can drop a couple gears and not break the rear loose with engine braking... When the rear would skip, i'd use the rear to settle it.

I'm with you scotty! Not sayin it can't be used, but is it really doing anything to improve laptimes??? Highly doubtful.
