Question Best shoulder protection under leathers?

Or should I say any shoulder protection. What options are there for under your leather suit, besides football shoulder pads, that would protect your shoulders in a crash?

    Thanks
    Chris

Most suits, and all quality leather suits will have armor protection not only in the shoulders, but also the forearms, back (if protector is included), shins, and sometimes hips as well. Your best bet is to buy a quality suit - barring that you can get a good all around upper body from Alpinestars such as the Bionic 2 Protection Jacket, or even the Bionic S2 Protection Jacket.
Other will also have similar protection, just shop around. And any company worth it's salt will also have lower body protection if needed.

Thanks Mike, my leathers (AXO, not hi-end) have CE armor in all places minus the hips. I'm just paranoid and looking for more since surgery in December. granted the impact of the crash wasn't the problem it was the way I landed tearing my labrum x2 but looking to minimize damage in future.

No problem, glad to help. It's important to dress for the crash, and not just the ride.

That don't help with that type of injury.. I know from experience unfortunately. But they do help a ton with impact.

Yeah i rock a Vanson suit and swear by it. Yeah you can get cheaper but i have gone down several times, once really hard on my shoulder and the armor and padding did a great job and the suit held up nicely. Get a Vanson and the first time you go down you will be glad you spent so much.

In pavement crashes, breaks are often the result of forces transmitted through the body from the extremity that hits the pavement. Often, that extremity is not broken on impact, rather another, more fixed location, like a joint, breaks when the forces reach it. Padding doesn't prevent these types of breaks. Shoulders, collar bones, knees, wrists are all vulnerable no matter what pads you choose.

That said, a direct hit to the shoulder would suck, too. In that case more padding is better. I'm a fan of Vanson suits because they are HEAVY and STIFF. The suit itself will absorb more energy than a lightweight IMO.

Thanks, thats why I mentioned football shoulder pads that transfer the force all the way across the shoulders and not focussed so much on CE armor
