well that "misprint" has been there for a long time since it was in the 05 rule book, 06 and the 07. it cant be the tech inspectors fault if you go through tech and then go back to your pits and decide to change your oil or a tire or brake pads.
Wheres MM on this? hes our rep right? we want.. no NEED belly pans enforced. period.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

i actually WANT to run the lower on my EX but know it'll get holes in it in no time from getting dragged all over the place
I may try & figure out a way to rig it up so it doesn't drag. At the very least it's gonna require a header mod & some safety wire to make it narrower.
The other problem is that i have to remove the frame sliders every time i wanna put it on unless i open up the hole they go through..

didnt the 500 come with a chin spoiler stock? if you could find one then you could modify that.

yeah i already have an airtech one, but like i said... it drags. that's why none of the EX guys run it.

I've retrofitted a steel paint tray (that you'd normally use with a roller to paint walls) to work as a belly pan for my motard. Its ugly as sin, but it should hold the 1.3 quarts of oil, should something untimely happen. I dont think it will drag, as its a little narrower than the frame. But we'll see.
Its bolted on, I just hope it passes tech. I know a lot of people wont put a bellypan on their motards, but I'd feel like a right prick if someone crashed and lost an entire season because my motor blew and dumped the contents of my crankcase on the race line.
They should call Production Twins what it really is, Shitty McBikefest. Rules for Participation: If your bike runs lower laptimes than a lawnmower, you are not eligibile for Shitty McBikefest. -Darrell

Run a stock Yamaha 450 and your problem is solved, season after season
Brent, did you change some of the bolts from when I had the bike? That bike was wired by the book when you bought it from me.
Sadly tech inspection is hit or miss so I would not count on them finding your mistakes, like Paul said, the safety wire is the final step to make sure the job is complete.
Yamaha
well... all of the oil and exhaust system bolts are drilled and safety wired.
i got the hang of it now, for even the oddest shaped bolts.
next up is the coolant drain bolts. then the brakes and clutch. then done!

couple more questions...
from the rule book:
7.4 All oil cooler lines must be a braided steel type and fastened with compression fittings, unless original equipment. It
is not advisable to wire hydraulic lines or banjo bolts.
Why are banjo bolts not advised to be safety wired... oem ones for my brakes and clutch still need to be done... right?
7.3 Oil filler caps and inspection covers must be secured with safety wire. Any other caps, plugs and fittings on any
system containing a fluid must be secured. This includes fuel hoses and water hoses.
Radiator cap needs to be wired... but should it be "open-able" for inspection while wired? Or would i go through tech to show it contains watter wetter adn then wire it back in the pit before i go out on the track?
How do you safety wire coolant and fuel hoses? I dont think there is anything to do there... unless the hose clamps need to be secured?

You're saftey wiring your clutch? Do you just enjoy wiring stuff?
Fuel and water hoses need to be secured. That means by a hose clamp, or similiar means. It's saying you can't just slip it on and leave it. Secured doesn't mean saftey wired. Do the brakes, oil and coolant in and out bolts/caps, exhaust hanger, headers, pinch bolts and axles. Banjo's do not get wired. Go have a beer.
At tech everything needs to be wired and secured and ready to get on the track, with the exception of belly pans removed on the bikes that have them. They won't taste your oil, or coolant, maybe your gas. If you're running the wrong coolant you might get away with it once or twice, but if they catch you prepare for a fine and/or suspension.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
no i dont enjoy wiring.
its taking forever.
the clutch is hydraulic... and the rules said to wire anything that could open and drain fluids onto the track. i just noticed the banjo bolt thing... and have already done a few of them (oil pipes and clutch) and would rather not do any more if i dont need to.
thanks.
