    Race Seats

I've noticed most race machines don't have much of a seat... just a thin neoprene pad on flat fiberglass. I can't put a race tail on thanks to being in Production Twins... I have a fairly flat seat pan...

Is the goal to get as low on the bike as possible, or are you all just masochists that don't like your posteriors?

probably a couple reasons. its pro race inspired so i imagine the big reason would be weight reduction. beyond that it is lower....... or not as bulky as a seat so its easier to move around on. third, when its time to work on the bike, seat and tail come off as one piece.

weight reduction is huge when ditching the seatpan and related hardware. It usually doesn't lower the rider. It provides a stable platform from which to hang off, and receive feedback from the chasis. A big cushy banana seat just doesn't give the same feedback.

I'm betting that'd be frowned upon for PT.

Jersey had to put his stock seat back on his SV because NOT having the stock seat made the bike cramped and he had a hard time getting his feet onto the pegs comfortably.

Well fine, in that case my ST3 motor is getting shoved into the GS chassis. 105 RWHP should be competitive, eh?

I NEED to read the rules to keep from spending too much. They're like a credit card protection service.

    Oxx has a point...

I ran the Hawk in LWSS/LWSM and no one said a thing...

You don't really need to worry about it until you bump outta novice.

I agree with oxx and doc, no one cares if you stretch the rules unless you are killing the rest of the field and it is plain as day.

So I looked in the rules... Seems you can run a 620 in Ptwins...

Hobbs I am in with you brother! I am thinking of getting a "nicer" 620 Monster and use it as a streetbike/racer. You think you can find me one?

    I'll trade ya the 900ss

Last bit of curiosity for now while we're talking race prep... rearsets - Woodcraft rearsets use fixed pegs, Raask units use folding pegs. I'd normally think folding would be the way to go, have the peg fold rather than rip off on a slide... but maybe the fixed ones are sturdy enough to work as sliders? On the other hand, should the peg touch down in a turn, it's not going to lift like I'm used to...

Solid pags definitely act as sliders 99 percent of the time. They also provide another solid point to connect with the bike and get accurate feedback. IMO you don't want anything moving underneath you besides the tires.

All I know is Im REALLY glad I had the stock folding pegs for a while. I touched them down a number of time and probably woulda crashed if they didnt fold. Since I got more comfortable with the bike and my body position I havent touched them down since, but its something worth thinking about.

Once you used fixed pegs, you'll never go back. makes a big difference in feedback.

They will help as sliders as well. They just ground down.

If you are having problems with them touching down you can cut em in half so they are shorter.

Guess along the same lines I'll dump the clubman bars and go to clipons for better feedback. My headlight bracket's going to get a visit from the dremel soon...

Haha then my big ol feet will just be dragging. Although, Im still doing that from time to time, especially trying to shift coming out of the bowl. Thats always a nice little pucker of the butthole when that happens. Never seems to get used to it.

You need a heel toe shifter setup, Drag Specialties should have you covered.
