They're assuming the GoPro mount/camera inhibited the helmet's ability to do its job. That's not known, yet.

like when someone gets hurt breaking into your house and then sues you for an unsafe env...
This initially came to my attention because GoPro's stock took like a 10% dive right after this came out.
Undoubtedly Wall Street is prepping for a legal shit-storm.

GoPro has been set up for a big fall for a while now, even the owner has shown signs of knowing the rug was going to be pulled out from under them...

Agreed. I'm just not sure where I assumed differently.

You're going to have to up your game, maybe call me a bad name or something if you want to argue.

I'd say a P/E ratio of about 300 is how so. As an (admittedly oversimplified) reference, GoPro was 13x as "expensive" as companies making up the Nasdaq and 16x as expensive as companies in the S&P.
The more Wall Street loves you, the further / harder you have to fall....

Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
Schumacher has a shit ton of money. His medical bills are many many millions though. Someone is looking to sue. This is just bullshit. It wasn't the camera that did it. It was skiing into a wall that did it. How about if the point of impact on the rock had a protrusion. How does that change things? Seriously, this is just unbelievable.

Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
Another point that people are missing is the protection level of the helmets. Ski helmets are definitely NOT what people think they are in terms of protection. They will help mitigate injury, but a hard shot to the head is still a hard shot to the head. It's not like you are going skiing in your Arai or Shoei. Similar to a bicycle helmet when it comes to protection. Better than nothing, but far from ideal.

I was more asking about the CEO's actions which reflect that.

Even motorcycle helmets aren't magical. Stuff happens.

They've all abandoned ship over the past year and 1/2. Competition to GoPro is expanding, rapidly and they are being well oversold on the stock market.
It's a bubble waiting to pop and that's fine, the owner has already gotten way more out of it than he ever dreamed about.
He was just a surfer who wanted to put a camera on his wrist.

Did you read about his recent charity org? He's moving money for a reason.
-
Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
that sux!!! i havent seen any competition.
ya there are a few cameras out there.
but I havent seen any that are as reliable as the gopro.
i tried what I think was the ION air.. or something that looked just like that..
same specs as the gopro2 when it was out.. the only thing that was good was the mounting versatility.
the sound sucked and it just shutdown when I was snow boarding with it..
so other than limited mounting angles, i dont see anything out there that does as good as the gopro with video and sound quality.

Then you haven't seen many cameras.
My wife got me a cheapie JVC Actioncam and it looks better than a similarly spec'd GoPro, but uses a standard 1/4" threaded mounting system and is waterproof without a case. She is no camera expert and doesn't do a lot of research. Just walked into Best Buy and found something cheap/on sale.
The GoPro's have always been overpriced. They will continue to be until they get put out of business by cheaper readily available clones.
There is nothing technologically advanced about a simple video camera.
For $400, you can get a GoPro Black. For $600 you can get a full 1080p iPhone without a contract with tons more storage/battery life/editing/uploading/viewing/etc AND it's a phone, browser, etc etc etc. Plus the image quality is better. So tell me again why the GoPro should cost that much?

Because people are paying it.

For the time being, which I think was his point.
GoPro virtually *had* a monopoly on action/sports cameras, at least as far many people knew (including myself). Which is good, because without the chance to corner a market with product innovation and innovative marketing, we wouldn't have innovative products.
That's why GoPro got my $300 for a hero 2, and prolly a couple hundred more for mounts / accessories that they sold with monopolistic margins.
But equally important as having monopolies is that they end if the company doesn't continue to pump out fresh ideas....

Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
hooray! time to buy GoPro stock!!
I have a gopro...I love it...I just didn't buy the latest and greatest; I let the general public buy them at a premium, let it depreciate, then low ball em :P
I got a gopro hero hd1 for $100 (nib)...quality of video is good, battery life is good, sound doesn't wreak of wretched distortion, and short of drilling holes into a helmet and fabbing something out of metal, the mounts are good

Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
Ok so gopro is 300+ because people pay it.. but all other cameras that could even hold a candle to the gopro are the same price range...

Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
The contour cameras "hold a candle" to the gopros. The current roam 2 is $150.. half the price of the gopro. I'm too lazy and don't give a damn enough to tell you if that models tacks up against the gopros or not.
Mine cost me $90. Great value.
There are options. Most aren't even crappy options. They just lack the marketing mojo gopro has.
-
Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
when the gopro2 came out, and independent study was done with the gopro, contour and one other.. cant remember..
the gopro won.. it lost to one of them in low light conditions.. that was all it lost in a series of tests..
ive never used any of the contours..
-
Re: Schumacher/GoPro...Thank god the officials are smarter than I am...
You'll see the market flooded with equal to better options very soon, all around the $99 price point.

At one point. That time has passed.
