    Sidecar monkey

I'm sitting here playing some guitar on a rainy Sunday and it just occurred to me that I want to try playing monkey. How does one go about doing this?

Try showing up at a USCRA event at NHMS.

    Re: Sidecar monkey

USCRA is racing Labor Day so stop on by. People are always looking for monkey's for Loudon and at other tracks. By the way, it is pretty hard, but a lot of people like it. My sidecar monkey days are over after I pulled a Kurlon in turn 12

I was at the track and a monkey's driver did not show and he asked me to drive his rig. The rig was so ratty I would of ended up pushing it and wrenching it. They do it on the ice too at the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club.

I'm gonna try and stay for Monday and check this out.

Turn 2: obviously I'm just not going fast enough through there.

Get on the USCRA Yahoo group and toss out there that you'll be around Monday and you wanna give it a try.

My only advise, keep one hand gripped on something (Other than yourself) at all times. : ) Pulling a 'Kurlon' is when you release both hands at the same time to switch sides only to find the car 6" further ahead of where you thought it'd be...

    Pictures or it didn't happen.

Besides weight transfer is there anything else you can do to help win? Maybe turning on oil slicks or something?

Is it as intense as it looks? Things aren't looking good for me making Labor Day. Looks like I will have to wait 'til next year.

Oh trust, it DID happen. Kurlon was nice enough to pick the corner all of Zip Tie Alley was standing in to do it.

    Re: Sidecar monkey

I SOOOOO wish there were pics. I know I flailed spectacularly before giving up and supermanning off the back.

Because of some track management policy changes, if you wanna ride as a monkey you're going to have to pay an entry fee as a competitor Monday. (AMA membership if you don't already have one, USCRA membership, and one regular race fee.) 'Demo' rides are no longer allowed unfortunately.

If you're serious, get on the USCRA yahoo group list as the race director and some drivers are more than willing to work with you.

And YES, it's intense. I barely did a lap and was more whipped than after doing a GTL and motard race back to back. Once you get comfy I hear it gets better, you learn how to minimize your effort to get from place to place, etc. Oh, and you learn when you can relax and ease the death grip. : )

Friggen blast! It's worth the price of admission.

If anyone's feeling really goofy, I'll see if I can rent one of the currently mothballed rigs and try and race it?

EDIT: You have to enter a regular race, not the sidecar race. If you've got an EX you can run Formula EX. : )

Yes, if you aren't VERY familiar with the line and how the track goes you've got no place on a race sidecar.

No good, to be on track during a race event you have to be a licensed racer. Hence requiring a full entry fee/etc. If you don't have an existing acceptable license the USCRA requires you attend an approved school before you can get a USCRA license.
