Pete, have you been to a LRRS race weekend yet? If you are home from your trip, you should take a drive up and hang out Saturday. Get a feel for it. Wander around the garages and meet the 50 gazillion guys riding SVs like yours. Check out their setups. What they bring. How they make it work. Then wander over to hot-pit and watch a start.
I have found it informative.
Eat food at the Center Garage BBQ
You need to shadow someone. With permission though...
If you show up tomorrow. Look for me. We can like, hang and stuff.
Think I'm going to swing by and watch tomorrow
Come by the amsoil garage and say hi if you come today!

I'll be watching the results on race monitor. You guys suck!
So did you get your numbers this weekend? :hbang2:
For anyone wondering when to start you just missed it. It was this weekend.
Legit awesome times.
Extraordinary weather backed up by a holiday to recover. Yeah, some people did it right this weekend.
Fantastic first timers club this weekend. Congrats to all the riders that became racers!!

Ask questions while is still relatively fresh in our heads :).
My first weekend was a fucking nut-show whirlwind of highs. Fortunately all highs, no lows.
My biggest advice is to make friends, a lot of them.
I CANT WAIT TILL APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL damn all this excitement is killing me to have to wait until April.
My gist of things so far as I have read/researched is:
1. Do Penguin School
2. Pay License Fees
3. Do the Rookie Race
4. Start Racing
Pretty simple. I also read into bike prep, which wouldnt be too hard to do over the next few months. So what I really want to know is what the schedule is like from after finishing the race school and your rookie race to
1. Your actual first race
2. Costs you should allocate for
3. Time in which certain things need to be done so you dont run around like a headless chicken
4. Garage space renting
5. When does the race license become effective. Immediately?
Pretty much what a typical race weekend would entail. Reading all the posts, race reports really gave my heart a racing and my palms a sweating while in bed :groove:
Stephanie covered much of this more succinctly than I...
Race school is on Friday. It's a long day, with a "mock start" for the last on track session of the day. After that you go through registration to sign up for races the next day and get your LRRS account (you don't have a license yet).
Saturday, first race of the day is the rookie race. The goal of the rookie race is to finish. If you can finish the rookie race with out crashing or breaking too many rules, you will then "be licensed" (you won't get your license until it comes in the mail later, but you are licensed). On a middle weight (R6) you'll be eligible for 4 (not counting the rookie) races. The schedule is different each weekend, so there is no "defined" time between the rookie race and your first "real" race, but they are pretty good about not making them back to back.
Updated previous information with some closer costs... Still pretty close. This of course assumes no tip overs, and you show up with a prepped bike and good consumables (pads, tires, etc.).
The first weekend everythings going to be going very fast. You'll be dressing and trying to head out to the pre-grid way too early. Every time. This is where having some friends really (really, really) helps. People pay attention to what races others are in and help with stands / warmers all kinds of stuff.
Garage space. There's been a tradition of a rookie garage. There's also been rumors of it not being available to rookies because there are "squatters" using it. My advice is to have a garage plan before showing up for the weekend.
Here's what my first weekend was like...
They charge for camping and entry now?
