How would you start a NE circuit????

    So.....

I don't know if its been discussed but how would you start a racing circuit that changed venues like Loudon,NJMP,Pocono,Monticello, etc...

I know its out of the realm of possibility but I think it would be a great idea as I would be willing to travel to all different tracks and Im sure others would also. Instead of having people as just loudon pros wouldn't it be neat if we had an organization that raced at different tracks just like the pros do? Maybe we could do 2 levels like amatuer and expert and have grand champions at end of season in respective classes....

I just think it would be neat to have say a ...... Northeast champion (above tracks would be somewhat local)

its just a day dream but how hard would it be to start up? what are the obstacles and road blocks????

The fact that there's not enough motorcycle friendly race tracks.

I've raced Loudon & Thunderbolt. I've never ridden Pocono, but I know I wouldn't ever want to race at Monticello in it's current state (besides, rumor has it they won't even allow motorcycles anymore)

Get more tracks built & maybe it's got a shot at happening. Tamworth finally broke ground so I'm sure that'll be up and running in the year 2055

I find it funny that people who race at loudon think that MMC is not safe enough to race at.

Wanna play "Lets see what happens when you lose your brakes going into turn 1"?

In most places at Loudon you've got a chance of making it if you lose your brakes. There's spots at Monti where there's nothing but wall.

Re: How would you start a NE circuit????

Talk to The Don. Before we shrank to a one track club, he was running the races at Bridgehampton as GP/PRO out of his own pocket. Same for Pocono and all the other races outside Loudon. I believe he said that you would have to have a good chunk of money ($60,000, I believe.) that you could lay out to rent the track, get insurance, etc., etc. and then hope that you got enough at both gates to make your money back and then a little. The track would probabaly not deal with you unless you had an established reputation.
I remember one event at Bridgehampton that got fogged out on Saturday. Don gave everyone the chance to bug out by a certain time and get a full refund. Those that stayed started drinking at about 3:00. We broke out the kegs, the grills and a belly dancer and partied hard all night.
When the envelopes were passed out to the workers on Sunday, there was only their gate fees refunded. I'm sure Don took a severe bath on that weekend.

For those of you that don't know....This organization has been operating since the 1960's. There have been many tracks come and go. Some good, some not so good and some terrible. Back in the late 80's or early 90's we ran 15 events at 5 different tracks one year in the NE. (and riders complain today that 8 events is to much). And where did they all go??? Want to start a NE circuit? Bring lots and lots of money to the table. Find the tracks and then get some dates that are open. Lot's of luck.

I guess it depends on what you're calling turn 1.

Rich lost his brakes in "a" turn 1 and walked away.

What happens if you lose your brakes in 3 or 6 at NHMS?

    Or lose the front in 2, 8, 9, 10, or 12.

I'm not sure how many times you've been there or what configuration you've run, I think I made 4 trips and ran every layout. I can really only think of a couple places that may benefit from a tire wall and/or air fence, and compared to amount of airfence at NHMS I would say that's minimal. We're just so used to running there that we've grown used the dangers that we don't notice anymore.

Your rumor mill sucks, almost as much as spreading them does.

No brakes into T3? Has it really been that long since Brian?

It really... really does pain me to say this, but I couldn't more.

While MMC absolutely would need fences moved and/or airfence in a couple of spots... an argument that it's any more dangerous than NHMS for racing *assuming that a few tweaks are made* is entirely motivated by something other than a concern for rider safety.

MMC's a proper road track, not something shoehorned into a cement-walled bowl. No matter how much airfence you use, we deal with walls and realities that simply can't be changed and have learned to ride our lines and know where to take risks as a result.

If you're concerned for safety, another venue in the North East that offers an alternative can ONLY be a good thing as improvements made to one or the other will in no doubt be motivated by not only safety, but to attract more business. Which do you think the owners of either would respond to more?

For the record, I believe NHMS AND MMC are perfectly acceptable venues for racing, and believe that rider safety starts with rider instruction, and licensing, not with the track itself. Safety is a measure of those you have around you because well, the track doesn't move and any track is as dangerous or as safe as YOU make it.

I'd rather race at Loudon with those I have known and raced with for years, than at any other venue... although I fear those times are changing.

at least there's a chute...... kinda.

Scott, I'm not saying T3 is a safe place to lose your brakes at all. And I'm not saying Loudon is the safest place, either (hence the "drama queen" comment, cuz I felt you were blowing my words out of proportion a bit & using Brian as a needless example).

All I'm saying is that the mere two days I had at Monti on the North & 66 Courses, I felt there were more places at Monti than at Loudon that I would not feel comfortable riding at 100%.

It's a great track and I would love to race there, but I'd like to see them change some things first.... starting with the Armco outside of what is labeled turn 18 on this map here:

    http://melhuish.org/track/Monticello_track_map-3.jpg

I think it's a fantastic track & I'd have no problem at all going back to ride there, but racing, as you well know, is a completely different story.

As far as rumors go... that's why I said it was a friggin rumor. I don't know if it's true or not, but word on the street is that Monti is having second thoughts about bring bikes back next year. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.
