I would like to see what other motorcycle news sources that do not have an axe to grind have to say.

I must be in the dark, what's the axe Soup has to grind?

I could care less about their bias, it's the comments by guys such as Spencer, etc. that have hit home more than anything else.

well, i guess my only "issue" if you want to call it that, is the fact that the racing has been very good this year, but the drama has made me lose real interest in the series. the racing has been over shadowed by all the "DMG did this, DMG didn't do that" and the "mladin thinks/says/did....."

I love AMA racing, i like the fact that Buell is finally competitive and winning nonetheless. the flagrant oversight of the rules to let Buell run a non streetbike though is a little dishartening. unfortunatly i dont get to actually see any of these races. the tape delay 11pm races i cant stay up for...i fall asleep trying. once SPEEDVISION changed to SPEED channel my ability to watch any motorcycle racing went down the shitter. i used to be able to catch all the races i missed on 2 wheel tuesday.....then that got changed from a whole day of motorcycle racing to a 1hr show...then to nothing at all. i could DVR all the races (if i had 1) and watch them at my convienience, but why should i have to? my lack of interest in not only AMA, but Moto GP and WSBK as well is directly related to the lack of coverage. if i was a NASCAR guy though...well let me tell ya. there are 168 hrs in a week and i wouldnt be surprised if i could watch something NASCAR related for 100 of those hours, but i cant even watch a motorcycle race on a channel devoted to motorsports.

yeah, i have agree with Oxx a bit as well, but unfortunatly we are in a catch 22. number of viewrs sucks because of the coverage and the coverage sucks because there are no viewers.

Can't bring the viewers if the format is bunk.

exactly. but i'm guessing it's not a small investment for them to change around all the nascar programming to accomodate us just hoping that we will tune in.

There's 42" of idle plasma television in the living room. I can't remember the last time I parked my a$$ in front of it. Coverage is so piss poor of any sport worth watching that I'd rather be in the garage or playing with the kids.

But much like their other substantial investments into NASCAR, if "they" want changes made bad enough in order to appease the fanbase they'll be sure to get the money in place. Problem is, and the article touches on this, we are trying to be made into sheep instead of DMG listening.

Every DMG official I spoke with over the course of the season listened quite well.

Just because someone is looking at you, nodding their head in agreement and saying "uh-huh....yep....." doesn't mean they're listening and if DMG is in fact listening then I say they learn to move with a bit more haste to correct the issues and save what is left of the joke that has become American motorcycle racing.

eh, i'm going to jump out on a limb real quick and just point out that "american motorcycle racing" isn't the joke, those guys still go out and race as hard as they can with what they got. it's dmg, the promoters, the teams and the manufacturers that are the joke. the racers are still top notch and they did the best they could with what they were given.

    I agree.

I didn't mean to sound like I was referring to the racing itself or the riders. I suppose the phrase could have been prefaced with "the presentation of".

    Poorly chosen string of words.

I don't give a flying fuck what political bullshit is going on off the race track, what few races I did get to see this year were awesome.

Re: Stirring the Pot, DMG walks hat-in-hand to the West Coast...

That's kinda the point here Pete, the point was the way things were run, promoted, and the "administration" of it all have completely eclipsed the fact the racing was actually pretty good this year.

And Alex, I know this is round 11tybillion on this issue, and I def. acknowledge that you have way more inside info than me, but it's not just Dean Adams who has spoken out about this stuff.

From the absolute embarrassment that went down during Laguna, where the world-class guys were literally laughing and shaking their heads in uncomfortable embarrassment, to the JRP incident, to the pace car, to... to... you really can't sit there and say it's a squeaky wheel or "that one laughing stock of the paddock."

Hell even Spies who by all accounts is a pretty easy going dude (at least off the track), pretty much said flat out he was relieved to have gotten out when he could, and felt awful for everyone back trying to race amidst all of it. Mladin's outspoken too, and while I loathe the man, he has a lot of valid arguments... as does Schwantz, who ripped DMG to shreds not to long ago. Schwantz is probably the starkest example, I have absolutely nothing but mad respect for the guy, all he does is smile and try to help everyone out, starting with the kids.

Maybe part of it all stems from my absolute hatred for NASCAR and anything related to it, but you have to admit, there are some pretty stark indicators of where this is all heading, and it started from the very beginning where the OEMs weren't really valued like they had been in years past. Some may argue it's a good thing, but I would really hate to see the day when Yamaha / Suzuki / whatever is just a sticker on a cookie cutter bike.

We haven't even gotten to talking about Buells, and how pathetic it is that a) they're legal against 600s, and b) they can just whip up a special bike to race in SBK.

    It's pathetic.
