Street/track tire for the wet to drying conditions

What say the board? Has anyone done this before? I'm considering using a set of aggressive street/track tires for drying conditions.

I would either do dot race tires if it was drying and there was going to be a dry line quickly or run the rains if its going to stay damp. On the r6 I would run the 195 rain in drying conditions if I thought I couldn't get away with the dot

Yes, I would consider something like the rossa corsa in these conditions too. Really it would depend how long the race is and how much I cared about wasting a set of rains. This might be a good time to throw on some used rains?

Re: Street/track tire for the wet to drying conditions

I used a set of worn rains on Saturday 10/6 for a pretty wet Race 8 (LWGP) and it worked well enough to build up my confidence. When I went back out for Race 11 (MWGP) the track was about 40% dry and drying, but still too much moisture in Turns 1 through 3 and Turns 10-12 to use DOT tires. Only 1 person tried to race in this race on DOT tires and pulled off the track after about 1 lap. My rains are even more worn, but not completely trashed. I'd still use them for wet track days. It is too bad that the current DOT race tires have so little sipes to channel the water. Maybe a set of DOT tires and a tire groover?

MWGP this weekend was wet but drying. it was still wet enough for full rains. I was moving pretty good on them before crashing and turned a 1:24. after the crash I did two 1:33s and finished with two 1:30s using only 4th gear.

if you have to start looking for puddles way off line then its probably too dry for rains. but if you already started on them you have to make a decision, pussyfoot around to not destroy them or try to stay competitive and ruin them.

Michelin Pilot Road 3 has been used very successfully as a wet weather DOT.

i keep a set of Pilot Powers handy for a wet track.
if it's really wet but not raining, you could do a rain front and DOT rear
