    Trailer question(for the broke bastards)

So I'm starting to look for a trailer for the spring. I was hoping to find a used enclosed trailer on the cheap but haven't had much luck. Seems most of the enclosed trailers I'm finding used on craigslist and whatnot are only a year or two old and are still going for a decent amount of money. Basically I'm looking to spend under a grand. What's the best route to go? I'd like to be able to get two bike onto or into it. If I can't find a used enclosed trailer I will most likely just pick up an open 5x8 or 6x10 landscape-type trailer, which I can get new for around $800.

For the dough you wanna spend you'll likely need to put dough into whatever you end up with as far as enclosed units go.

IMHO, it'd be in your best interest to pony up the few extra hundies and get something used but still fairly clean.

Also IMHO, enclosed is the way to go.

There are a couple of enclosed units for sale in town. I'll take a ride tomorrow and see what I can dig up.

I know you're lookin at enclosed trailers, but if you find yourself in a pinch you can always get a harbor frieght 4x8 w/ 12" wheels for under 300 bucks shipped... throw 100 bucks of lumber at it & you've got a rickety but reliable open trailer for super cheap... I've been using mine since '06 to bring two bikes to NHMS & it brought two bikes to NJ and back as well with no issues.

I'd look into Tractor Supply before Harbor Freight. They're already assembled in the store so you just pay, hook it up and tow it home for pretty close to the same money.

Yes enclosed trailers are ridonkulous money. But skip the open trailer for any real money. Enclosed is where its at. Plus you can sleep in them.

Re: Trailer question(for the broke bastards)

If you go the landscape trailer route, will you use it for anything else? I think the landscape has more versatility, but def. isn't as nice when it comes to security, dry, etc...

I like my 6x10 utility. Its a good size for both hauling bikes and for moving other crap (construction, trash, bulky items) that would be difficult/impossible in an enclosed. It won't weigh much more than a 5x8 and still tows easily w/ smaller vehicles. I *think* you might be able to squeeze 3 bikes on a 6x10, but it would be super tight & you'd probably need strapless stands. Try the NH CL...i usually got more hits than MA.

[edit] Where are you finding a good landscape for $800? When I was looking, new was $1300-1600 for a 3k GVWR.

I got an open one. you can haul other shit in it as well. Tonuea over on the truck keeps tools, etc out of the weather. I would love a nice enclosed one.. BUT i am too cheap LOL

Harbor Freight works great. Get the bigger wheel option and the diamond plate floor option and you'll have a fine trailer.
Mine even has outrigger wheels so I can store it on its side. This is a photo of mine.

    Nice set-up.

What's the trailer in the pic? Is it the Harbor Freight you were talking about?

I'm looking for a small trailer too since i got rid of my truck. That one would be good. What's the ramp situation like?

Actually it is the same trailer parts that all those places carry. You can however go right to the source like I did. http://sportutilitytrailers.com/LongChih/832T.htm I got the larger wheel option and ramp, etc. Have fun it's a cool site. Email them for prices then hmmm and hawww and they may give 10% off. I put it together 90% in my living room, then carried it outside with my wife and put the wheels and deck on it. I do recommend the diamond plate floor or at least a plywood floor for rigidity and a place to stand. Oh and of course come buy a CONDOR trail wheel chock from me to complete the package.

The brand is about $2400 new, open. You can get a 2 year old enclosed dual axle with ramp door for that.

an enclosed trailer would be ideal, but depends if you have space to store it/keep it.

haha, it's probably a Kendon. Actually what I'm looking to get as it folds up and stores upright. No way I can keep an enclosed at my house.
