    Racing!

I'll see you boys up at the track

She is in FANTASTIC shape. Tires are drier than Liz Taylor's twat, but a new set from UberDave should get her all set to go. Just need a battery (wal-mart, this friday), a cap for the coolant reservior and maybe a gas cap.

I may try to find some lighter springs for the forks. Right now it's setup for a 170lb rider which is 40lb's more than me. When that happens I'll also install the racetech emulators that I got with the bike.

I have a couple sets of stock fork springs if you need a set. If we can determine the rate of the springs you have I may be interested in buying them. They would have to be the 90 or 95kg springs for me.

Sweet! I'll try to find out which springs they are. What weight are stockers setup for?

    The springs are .95

I know because I originally bought those and the emulators for my race EX

That is my wifes first street bike... Nancy bought it from us when we bought her FZR400 and since I never installed the springs etc she grabbed them with the bike...

Here it was when we first bought it...

Anywho... now you know... I'm 180 w/ out gear so they are some stiff springs!

Hey FYI the bike has a pro shift kit and an ignition advancer in it... Dunno why that matters but thought ya might like to know...

I jetted the carbs and had it dyno tuned by New England Motorsports... however they were tuned to a Muzzy 2-1 that use to be on it... so if it seems a little off they may need to be retuned... I actually think I still have the stock needles etc for it... not 100% on that...

Bitchin Clayton, looking forward to seeing you up there in June

I'll have to dig through my spares, I thought I had a coolant reservoir in there somewhere. What's wrong with the one on the bike?

I'm pretty sure .95s where what I ended up with in my EX and I weigh 135. KEEP the springs. THe stockers are like a rocking horse through Loudon's bumpy turns

    Springs

This also depends a lot on what brand tires you plan to run.

The racetech spring rate is determined by your weight WITHOUT gear. You can go to there website and punch in your numbers to determine what is good for you.

If you are going to run Dunlops in the front, you want to soften up the spring and go heavier on the oil weight. The reason being the Dunlops chatter like crazy. There is no way to get rid of the chatter, and you pretty much just get used to it and ride through it, and that's as fast as any tire on the EX.

If you run any other brand, especially Pirelli, you want to stiffen the front with the spring and lighten up the fork oil slightly. The other brands of tires don't chatter as much, but they cost more.

I run a Michelin front, by the way, and a Dunlop rear.

    Time to clean the garage....

Good info Mark. The dunlops chattered a ton with my stiff springs, so I ran michelin or Pirelli with no problems... I hate chatter, and I'll never understand why people put up with it on the Dunlops.

Running a softer spring is not my idea of fun on an EX. Just too much weight transfer to really push hard.

    Every rider is different though...

I'll be starting off with Michelin's. I have an old set of Pirelli's on there now that are too dry to run. I will keep the springs as they are for now.

Mark, if you are still interested after I run them and don't like them, I'll keep you in mind.

    Next question:

Should I install the RaceTech gold emulators? I have them, just need to install them.

Yes on the emulators! In fact, if you can stack 2 or 3 in each fork it might actually feel like a real front end

Definately try the bike with the springs you have, and the emulators. Since you will have them apart to put the gold valves in, set the sag to like 25mm to 30mm.

Will see you at the track!
