That is an incredible package and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from John. I have bought a bike from him (MX) and it was tops. That is, however, a highly advanced bike. Most of those parts would be largely irrelevant to one learning to race at Loudon. I'm sure it's well sorted, but highly tuned bikes can be harder to ride, and a lot more hassle to maintain.

In this case, stock is pretty hard to beat.

I want to say there was at least one RS125 for sale at the last round last year, hiding in the back of the center garages?

USGPRU : View topic - For Sale: 1997 RS125 Lower cost of entry, smaller spares package?

Looks like a good starter kit. It isn't half of that other package, but it IS cheap.

Also much milder state of tune.

Re: Teach me about TZ and RS 125s

Riding a highly tuned 125 is MUCH harder. The stock ones have a little more grunt and a wider spread of power. Pushing the HP up means pushing the revs up, narrowing the power band, making jetting more sensitive to weather, and quite frankly, just asking too much skill from the rider. Modding an already well developed GP bike is a double edged sword. I do believe it's best to start with stock and tune the bike step by step as your skills develop.

John's bike is still one to consider if you have the money though. several years worth of spares and some seriously nice hop up parts.

That's quite a bit to think about.

On the one hand, you want to make the learning curve easier. On the other, I think about costs. Do I upfront the cost for a well-tuned machine, or do I pay less initially and pay-as-needed for upgrades and consider the time to source parts, etc. Definitely good stuff to think about.
