I make most of my passes on the outside of 10

(unless i get collected by someone that lowsides on my inside... but that NEVER happens, right? )

Hmm...so if you lowsided in the new "turn 10a" (the 90 degree L turn) wouldn't you end up sliding into the concrete nascar walls rather quickly?

sounds like T2 or T12 doesnt it?

    tight T10

I liked the variety that tight T10 offered, but it made the track even tighter than it already is. The first time I came around tight 10, I almost sh*t, because even though I slowed in anticipation, it was tighter than I expected. Once I got it dialed, it was fun.

The chicane that brings you back onto the old track before T11 is very tight, which means you want to pass well before the chicane, because there isn't enough room to pass safely. Of course, that didn't stop too many riders from trying.

There are no walls around the outside of the tight T10, so it's safer than the regular T10.

Interesting...I've definitely heard a few horror stories about the wall on the outside of T10...so if the tight 10 is in fact safer, maybe it should be considered as a permanent change?

Actually, when I first heard about it a few years ago I thought it *was* being considered as a permanent change, but got pulled for some reason. I didn't realize they do it now and again just for fun.

They did that a few years ago after a fellow rider died. IT SUCKS! Expect a HUGE bounce(at the transition) coming outta 10 now and then no drive or akward downshift before you cut it back to the left to hit the chicane. It seriously sucks! I hated it.

    Just my .02

    Cheers

I don't think you would have enough speed to ever get to the wall.

I don't race, but I like passing there on TTD's. That's my favorite "pass on the gas" spot actually. Its nice to be able to get out out there and on the gas more to motor by the tighter traffic.

Having it tighter in there would definitely change things in a big way.

    Have fun out there!

Gotcha, the way it was drawn made it seem like you would end up closer to the wall but perhaps that's not the case when you're out there.

I'm timid in 2 and 12 for the same reason, I guess racing at loudon is one of those things that separates the people who are willing to risk slamming into a wall of concrete for a 5x10 plaque from those who are not

As a racer, I would love to have more time with the tight T10, though I can't imagine most non-racer track day riders would care for this so much.

When this was first brought up I suggested that this is part of Jerry Wood's master plan to increase penguin attendance and open practice by making it extremely beneficial for the riders who come out on thursday/friday and run the new configuration, which is why he ignored the dissention at the riders meeting and pretended like everyone was all for the new T10. I was told to adjust my tinfoil hat.

Either way, I will be making it a point of *not* attending thurs/friday in protest of this entirely undemocratic decision and in support of my half-baked conspiracy theory. Much like that master internet plan of not buying gas from Mobil to protest high gas prices, I am sure that my boycott will not go unnoticed and will have swift and massive repercussions which shake the very foundations of LRRS racing as we know it.

I welcome the change. This configuration instills the necessity of a right hand turn.

Last year, coming down into 10 I had a slight miss calculation (I was thinking of the old track). Needless to say I was carrying a little too much speed. This forced me run right out to the cones while I was looking up to the nascar straightaway wall to bring her around. Not panicking and not looking to where I could have ended up saved a potential incident. Prior to this I was a little hesitant with my right turns. This quickly changed that feeling.

One issue that I have heard a few times about the change are coming into the chute can create an intersection (a la T1 & T3) and in the chute to the main track (a little narrow). People are going to have to judge this situation accordingly. I have experienced this one pretty closely. You can come into the turn following the nascar straight, near stop block and turn (not suggesting this) or create a nice low arc carrying speed into 11.

it's fun to learn a few new turns as quickly as possible then go racing. In fact, that's what pros have to do all the time.

FWIW, the tight ten is a drag for the 125 as it doesn't flow. It's a boon for motards though...

That's really the conspiracy, it's a plot hatched by all motard lovers to steal points from riders who love real roadracing machines! Kill the motards!!!!

Well, if the only end result of this whole T10 business is a good motard lynching I think we can consider it a success.

Heh, that's true. So tell us pete, are those tires as soft as they say? I hear it's like crashing into a cloud, and that Mick Duhamel only broke his leg because he is an old woman who didn't drink his milk and so has osteoporosis.

The tires are quite soft when you hit. Especially the ones that can move/slide when you hit... Airfence is softer...

    LOL

I like change, so I'd embrace it... if I were racing again, which I'm not.

It was quite obvious that Jerry had his mind made up when he asked for a vote and heard what he wanted. Oh well.

And my only real experience hitting the tires was in T3 and T10 the same race weekend! They aren't too bad, really. But, I was slowed down to about 15 mph when I hit.
