First time going to lrrs at loudon

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum and I am interested in buying a track bike and racing next year. I have raced motocross for 10+years, drag raced a couple seasons, and now I want to try some road racing. Ive been doing some research here for a couple weeks and decided that I should take the drive up to NH for the race on july 21st and see the bikes and racing for myself. I'm wondering if I will have any problem walking through the pits if I am not a current racer. Ive seen the classes in their rulebook and most likely would like to race a 4 cyl 600 (maybe a 05 zx-6 or gsxr or similar)... but would like to also see the type of bikes in the other classes as there may be something there that interests me more. For example I would love to find a descent 1989 gsxr750 to race because that was my first street bike in high school and has a certain nostalgia to me.

You buy an infield pass at the gate, which is $10-$15 for that day.

You're welcome to roam around and ask questions in and out of the pits.

A track day would be a less stressful and easy going environment to meet and talk with a lot of the racers and check out bikes as well

    Cool. Another motocrosser. Me too.

Strolling the pits will get you a feel for the atmosphere and what bikes are running.

If you want to race next year. I recommend doing at least a couple track days this season to get a feel for it.

This will get you in tune with it and it will get you started toward sorting your bike out.

By all means come on up and check us out. It's a blast.

Last spring I finished building my drag zx14 for NED. I was booted and was going to get my license to run street fighter. Before I got my license I did one track day. Long story short I have never been back to NED, I sold my Zx14, and I think about NHIS everyday. You will love it.

Yeah, definitely swing by...everyone's always happy to talk to prospective racers. I'm in center 2 with Rada and JettaJay, which is right next to ECK and RSP. Lots of brains to pick in a concentrated area.

Re: First time going to lrrs at loudon

    Welcome to the forum!

Yeah, you prob won't wanna race an 89 GSXR750 in LRRS once you see the bikes you'd be up against. Only bikes of that vintage that are still competitive within their respective classes are EX500's, Hawks and maybe a few select others.

Wait, is it air cooled? That might make a little bit of difference, but prob not.

The typical weapons of choice at LRRS are your typical modern I4 600's, SV650's, Motards and the like. Definitely come on up, walk through the pits, see if you can find us all & have a look around.

Re: First time going to lrrs at loudon

    Another thing to think about...expenses.

The cheapest bike to race is probably going to be the SV650 in terms of reliability, available parts, tire wear, etc.

The more expensive bikes to race are the motards and 600's.

Yeah oreogaborio it was just a thought about the older gsxr. In all likelyhood I will end up on a newer i4600. And thanks everyone for all the invites to your pits.... see you all on saturday.

I hear exactly what your saying. Motocross got expensive at times and Im thinking road racing is going to be more expensive than that was. Luckily I am able to get parts at cost but I know it all adds up quickly. Like anything else I'm going to have to spend a little bit more in the beginning when I buy a bike to save a little bit down the road as far as mechanical reliability. Although I do have a bike shop at my disposal to work on the bike and unlimited dyno tuning, I still want to keep mechanical problems to a minimum... as does everyone else

When you stop by on saturday I can give you a rundown on costs. I run a 600 i4.
