What kind of tire warmers do you have?

Curious to see what everyone else is using for tire warmers out there. What are your likes/dislikes with them?

I just had a pretty scary scenario this past race weekend with tire warmers. We had some help in the pits and the guy pitted next to me had Chicken Hawk warmers. When his warmers were taken off they were put on the ground after removal. The person helping out didn't realize they would stay on and it caught fire right next to my bike. Luckily, my bike wasn't harmed as someone saw the warmer on fire and put it out. I like the fact that my Woodcraft's are automatically powered off when removed from the bike.

That's scary. I've got CH but they're thermostat controlled so they shouldn't do that. Of course, I'm also pretty careful to unplug them before removing them from the bike. My next set will probably be Woodcraft, but I have no complaints about my CH; they're into their fourth season and no problems so far.

Re: What kind of tire warmers do you have?

I've been using a pair of woodcraft tire bakers that came across on the Mayflower, and helped Eisenhower defeat the indians... or something like that. Old, single temp, no safety features, and the damn things keep right on working.

My only real complaint with them, they are made of pretty heavy material, so they are stiff, and thick. Makes getting them on and off a pain on both my machines due to some 'tight' running tolerances in spots. I'd like to find something thinner/more pliable down the line.

Woodcraft needs to incorporate strain reliefs into their current designs. The ones with the high / low switch seem particularly vulnerable in that area. I've already repaired one from a yanked cable, there's nothing but a lil dab of solder holding anything in place. Fix that, and they'll have a solid design.

I have had my basic CH warmers for 4 years now without a single issue. Though the shutoff feature of the woodcrafts have always appealed to me....

Re: What kind of tire warmers do you have?

I got some hand me downs that used to be degsys when he raced and then went to nazo and now I got em. Basic blue chicken hawk dual temp by switching the thermostat. Nothing fancy. They work and have been working a long time. Price was right. I think I paid 190 for them.

I really didn't want to shell out the coin for a new set!!!

Watch the for sale section you'll find a decent used set for short cash.

We used to carry CH and they are a great product, but we had many returned due to user error of forgetting to unplug them before taking them off.

We now stock Woodcraft exclusively due to their safety design and Woodcraft's excellent vendor support which makes us look like the best.

That was my gf who caught that, we were pitted across and to the right to you guys. She was like, should something be burning over there? Lol, that thing was smoking! I got the woodcrafts for just that reason, in case whoever is at the track with me is helping and doesnt know any better. Its impossible to take them off without shutting them off. They also heat up pretty fast and cover the rim to help heat the rim as well.

Hey, I know exactly who you are. Didn't realize you were on NESR (been saying that a lot lately!) Tell her thanks!

Yeah, I really like the safety shutoff on the Woodcrafts. I'm glad I went with them.

I have Chicken Hawks, standard one temp setting. When not in use you should hang them so that the heat coils are not bunched up together. I hang mine off my EZ-up tent when not in use (unplugged of course!). I also read somewhere that the average lifespan of a set of warmers is something like 5 years.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Lube.... Er, Glyde: Mozilla/5.0 440x240 Samsung SCH-U940 NetFront/3.4)

Woodcraft Dual temps... Love em. Just wish they put another safety plug on the rear that would prevent breakage in case you're a friggin dope & start your bike in gear. luckily the wire snapped in a place that I can easily fix. Gonna contact them first just in case to see if they can help me out.

Stupid question, those with the woodcrafts, do you unplug them as well, or just pull the safety thing when you pull them off.

I usually just pull the safety thing and unwrap them. I figure pulling the cord I'm more likely to step on the plug by accident and F them up

I just undo the safety thingy, unwrap and put them aside. No need to unplug the warmers themselves. Avoids plug wear & tear and the inevitable mangling of the plug tongs by accidentally stepping on them. Very convenient.

suzuka, they suck. However user error isn't the problem, like those CH's that caught fire.

That's exactly why I have woodcrafts for both of my bikes. Idiot-proof. I just know I'd end up leaving them plugged in when rushing out for a race some time and then BAM you're out 400 bucks...

Just leave them in all the time... use the safety thing to reconnect and turn them on, and the safety plugs unplug themselves as you pull the warmers off, you actually don't even have to touch them.
