NHMS making it easier to get started in racing

Half Priced Entries & Free Weekend Pass for New Racers

The annual LRRS officials meeting just happened over the weekend, and there is one bit of business that I thought would be good to spread. For new Novice racers who are getting licensed for the first time, LRRS is offering up to three half priced entries plus a free weekend pit pass on your first weekend. Brand new licensed riders also get three weekends of free transponder use.

This is a great deal when you think about it. The new LRRS Novice class is limited to just newer riders. Once a rider surpasses a lap time threshold, they are automatically bumped into the Amateur class. This will make the new Novice class more comfortable for any rider to try out racing, as the fast guys are no longer there. With this program, you essentially get full weekend of riding (2 practices each day plus your three races over the weekend) for only $90! On top of this you get to watch the best racers in New England all weekend long.....

If you have interest in checking out LRRS, come on up to a Basic School and we'll be happy to help you get started. The new Novice class and this promotion program makes it really easy to give racing a try and see if it is for you!

My pops will be glad to hear this... he is planning on doing the first Penguin school.

I got my license last year and was only able to race a couple times... almost wish I would have waited until now!

Old bump, but does anyone know if this offer for newly licenses racers is still active? If so, how/when do they get the weekend pass credit; do they get a voucher at registration after the class Friday that they can bring up to the gate for a wristband?

I would hope so. It seems like we have had quite a few newbs come in this season. Myself included. This certainly helped me afford the opening weekend cash vacuum.

Another nice thing that they did this year was to open up center garage 17 for the new racers to use for free their first weekend. There are plenty of mentors around there to make sure you do the right thing at the right time and keep you calm on what can be a pretty daunting first race.

This! I can't imagine how I would've gotten through everything the first weekend without the RSP boys taking me under their wing, and ECK helping out as well (this was all pre-Garage 17, mind you).

In related news.... If any new racer has questions about anything or wants advice or just to bench race. Please feel free to stop by our corner of paradise. There are plenty of people around that are happy to help. RSP, ECK and G2 are always up for helping new racers with anything.

I can attest to this... i havnt even started racing but in the last couple event weekends that i have been hanging around at the track everyone has been welcoming and helpful and it has been greatly appreciated. i had been aprehensive about how well a newcomer would be accepted and my experience has been met with nothing but what i was hoping for. Thanks everyone and i cant wait for 2013!!

Re: NHMS making it easier to get started in racing

I emailed Wanda about this, and here's her response:
The gate fee aka infield pass is not part of the deal, however, the first 3 race class entries are at 50% off and a transponder loan is free of charge for the first 3 race events.

We also waive the $20 late fee. The license is $55 for the remainder of 2012.

Only if you pre-reg, which you can't do for your first weekend.

If I do the last event in October, do the rest of everything carry over to next season?

Think she meant the actual cost of the first 3 races is 50% off. Not sure if that's what you meant....

No, I mean you go to penguin, reg fri night (3 discounted races) and carry on sans gate fee. They ask, you tell them you're new with 3 races (you should have paperwork) and get a wristband. If nhms doesnt honor this: muthafucking shame on them.

What equipment would a newish rider need for this? Is it similar to what would be needed for tony's track days?

You will need a fully safety wired bike with catch cans and belly pan.
A proper helmet with Eject system installed.
Tire warmers are pretty close to needed but.........

Other than that you will need a bucket of money and a friend to bring along for help.

Are you coming to the October TTD? If so(or even if not), come up early on Sunday, for $15 you can get a infield pass for the day. Come to the RSP Racing garage(on the back side of the Pirelli garage, if you've been to a TTD in the past 2 seasons it's the same one we use during them) and say hello. Any of the guys on the team, or really any of our friends/pit crew in the garage will be happy to show you around one of the bikes, and point out the differences in prep requirements between racing and trackdays.
