New Track/Race Bike - Hell Yeah

Got the new bike today, and that suit from Black Squirrel (you are the man bro, thanks again!). Hell yeah! I'm beyond stoked. The bike is bad-ass. Excellent condition, clean enough to eat off off, etc. Runs great, shifts smooth as butter, feels real tight, all bearings are good... no complaints at all. Going to need a stand like the one it was on that holds it by the swingarm, or will need to throw spools on there. Aside from that, need to remove all stickers, paint it, tighten up the throttle assembly (screw is tight, gonna need to put some tape under it or something) and I'm good to go. Absolutely stoked. Really only a back protector and some boots away from being track ready at this point

It doesn't get great traction all that well on cold, shitty parking lots, but that's not really a surprise

I'll give it some thought anyway. Everything else is going for sure, it needs to be painted and any stickers will be mine.

Re: New Track/Race Bike - Hell Yeah

BTW, couple quick questions re: tech.

    1) Is that broken windscreen going to be an issue getting through tech?
    2) The throttle returns fine, but doesn't do it with a really fast and solid "snap" like my dirt bike or R6 did, it's more like my 87ZX750. Will that be an issue at tech? Of course, it could just be because it's below freezing, might return faster/harder when it's above freezing.

Cut the screen, you dont need that whole thing anyway. I basically cut mine across right at the top ears of the fairing

Re: New Track/Race Bike - Hell Yeah

Thanks on the windscreen tips. Cut it with a dremel?

Also I had a chance to try on the suit, it fits awesome! Thanks Black Squirrel! I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit a back/chest protector under it, need to find them locally to try on. If not I'll have to get an insert that goes into the suit, or at least a back only protector. Gotta find a place to try on chest/back combos under the suit first.

It's gonna take more than that to pay me back for the R6... like riding it straight into a solid object on one wheel at speed...

Thanks! I'm way stoked. I'm only some boots and a back protector away from being ready for the track!

Would anyone really consider a rav4 a "solid" object?

(at least it was the front wheel)

So i can cut down the broken windscreen, bike otherwise seems really well sorted. Anything else I should do, or is it just time to get to the track and see what it tells me?

Aside from the usual stuff, go over every nut and bolt, maybe bleed the brakes, change oil. Just hit the track, its an ex.

Cool. It'll def. get a good going over as i look at it and wait for summer. seller had a haynes manual he wouldn't throw in. I assume since it's an EX it calls for 87 octane and whatever oil comes out of my truck after an oil change on that? Seller also said the oil, filter, etc. are all new and he checked the valves last year, but who knows. he had 4 other really nice bikes and a dozen or two racing trophies, so he seemed to know his shit.

Also, I need to decide if I am going to add spools for a stand or just get one that holds the swingarm like the one he had it on when I saw it.

We're required to run 93 for racing, but Im sure 87 would be fine. And I use regular oil I think, I get it at autozone. I got an eletronic copy of the manual if you need one.

Re: New Track/Race Bike - Hell Yeah

A copy of that manual would be awesome if you wouldn't mind... I'll PM you my email. As for gas I'll stick with 93, may as well get it running as well as I can on the same gas all the time. The previous owner said he ran some special expensive oil, but i dont know that there's a point in these things from what I hear about them.

Just don't run oil with friction modifiers, aka any of the ones with the 'energy saver' seals as those can cause the wet clutch to slip. Change the oil frequently and you can run true crap without issue.

    Shell Rotella

...and the 93 has to come from the Shell just up the street from NHMS if you wanted to keep it "legal".
