    Transponder mounting location

I read in the LRRS rule book that says the transponder should be mounted on the fork tube, while the CCS rule book says no more forward then the rear axle. Since LRRS falls under CCS, which is correct?

I believe in LRRS events LRRS rules take precident. I could be wrong however. Although everyone I know mounts it to the fork tube.

    Re: Transponder mounting location

put it wherever you want. mine is on top of the triple tree next to the ignition. i think the fork is a bad spot in case of crash. although i thought the tail was equally as bad when i raced CCS. put it in the nose

    Re: Transponder mounting location

I have the bracket mounted to the fork LRRS. I would just make sure to put it somewhere up front cause when they check with the sensor on pre-grid they are waving across the front of your bike.
CCS uses a completely different transponder and holder and it is mandatory to run it on(or in my case in) the tail. You won't pass tech if you dont.
Every place is a bad place depending on the crash.

    Re: Transponder mounting location

AMB strongly recommends the fork tube mount, which is why Steve Baron had the wording inserted into the rulebook. CCS more or less requires the tail mount because they're too lazy to check them when they're mounted properly.
The problem we have at Loudon is that transponders are mounted all over the bikes, and this messes up the accuracy of electronic scoring, and manual scoring remains extremely important. (And opens up the numbers legibilty can of worms) CCS works as long as everybody is doing it the same, ("As long as the error is constant.") but Steve says he gets a clearer signal with the fork mount. Mounting the transponder transversely on the triple tree will cause Steve to radio your number to me to check your mounting, that's how weak the signal gets.
The AMA finally figured it out and moved the mounting spec to the fork. The two years I was in T&S for the Classic, when the tail mount was in effect, all the bikes showed up red (weak signal) on Ken Rogers' computer until he turned the warning off.

If you race CCS, put it on the tail, if you are racing LRRS, mount it on the fork tube on top under the plastics.

Most imortantly, don't forget to return them before you leave the track.

Reminds me of the scene from Something About Mary when he picks up the Hitchhiker

Hitchhiker: You heard of this thing, the 8-Minute Abs?
Ted: Yeah, sure, 8-Minute Abs. Yeah, the excercise video.
Hitchhiker: Yeah, this is going to blow that right out of the water. Listen to this: 7... Minute... Abs.
Ted: Right. Yes. OK, all right. I see where you're going.
Hitchhiker: Think about it. You walk into a video store, you see 8-Minute Abs sittin' there, there's 7-Minute Abs right beside it. Which one are you gonna pick, man?
Ted: I would go for the 7.
Hitchhiker: Bingo, man, bingo. 7-Minute Abs. And we guarantee just as good a workout as the 8-minute folk.
Ted: You guarantee it? That's - how do you do that?
Hitchhiker: If you're not happy with the first 7 minutes, we're gonna send you the extra minute free. You see? That's it. That's our motto. That's where we're comin' from. That's from "A" to "B".
Ted: That's right. That's - that's good. That's good. Unless, of course, somebody comes up with 6-Minute Abs. Then you're in trouble, huh?
    [Hitchhiker convulses]
Hitchhiker: No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel.
    Ted: That - good point.
Hitchhiker: 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 doors. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.
    Ted: Why?
    Hitchhiker: 'Cause you're fuckin' fired!

Dave if you are 1' behind Alex at the end of a race (on the leaders lap) I'd be impressed!

I'd be impressed if I were even in the same race! He's likely to be an expert before I ever become an amatuer!!!

    Re: Transponder mounting location

If I had mine on the rear in one of the races I would have ended up 2nd. I have mine on the front fork where I won by .009 seconds. Take any advantage you can give yourself. You may need it some day. + It is a little more protected. When they come up to check transponders I just point to where it is for them to get a signal so there is no guessing.
