    Transponders

I know Eric addressed it for the Homestead race, but this is written on the CCS Racing website:

As announced in the 2012 License Renewal Mailer, using a Westhold Activated Transponder is required for all CCS/ASRA races beginning in 2012, except those held at NHMS, Loudon NH.
so does this mean that anyone planning to race outside of Loudon for 2012, like NJMP will need a different transponder?

will NHMS accept these Westhold ones, or are we stuck with the AMB tansponders?

If the westhold ones work - it's a big bonus as they are WAY cheaper. We'll see how it goes.

I'm planning to do some CCS events outside of NHMS, so I'd like to get some info on what I'll need.

I read the 2011 CCS rulebook says the transponders cannot be in front of the rider.

well if the NHMS scoring system supports the Westhold transponders, I'm switching over. I just got off the phone with a support rep & asked some questions about cost, charging, etc.

I'm also in the market for a new transponder. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Until someone at NHMS gets an activator (additional cost) the westhold units won't fire up.

    Re: Transponders

Everything I can find says the two systems will not work with the others transponders.

If NHMS wanted to foot the bill they could:
    - Buy a whole Westhold system, reciever/decoder/ect
    - Buy a Westhold activator so racers can use the $80 WH transponder instead of the $190 options
    - Link the Westhold system to the AMB setup and run both systems at the same time.

For twice the cost, hassle and effort we could run dual transponder systems... Pardon if I don't hold my breath waiting for NHMS to jump on that one. In the mean time I'm still planning on buying a new AMB transponder for 2012.

I agree with you. It just sucks that the riders will be forced to purchase two transponders if they plan on racing at NJMP and Loudon.

    Re: Transponders

They are two entirely different systems. In order to support the Westhold x-ponders, the track would need to have a Westhold timing system.

According the the CCS website, CCS uses Westhold with the exception of LRRS. To me that means the folks going to Miami in February should plan on one of two things....rent or buy a Westhold x-ponder.

EDIT: Jim, WERA is still using AMB. Just saying......let's get the frick down to ViR this year.

    CCS or WERA?

Looks like August 4 and 5 for WERA at ViR. They did 2 visits last year but guess it's only one this year.

Also, I didn't realize there were so many visits to Summit Point. I'd like to check that place out as well!

when i started in CCS all transponders were mounted on the tail. thats why there are 2 holes in the top of my tail section

So if I understand correctly, Westhold is out and I need to buy an AMB. Anybody have a good-cheap source for an AMB transponders? Thanks.

They were unobtanium when we all bought them recently, used going for almost as much as new once LRRS sold out. However, if a bunch of other tracks are going to be switching to westhold I'd keep an eye out online for used ones, there may be some coming up if a bunch of people have to switch. This is speculation as I'm not sure who was using these before.

    Re: Transponders

If you're racing in LRRS, you'll need an AMB transponder. Rookies are given a grace and allowed to rent one their first 3 weekends I believe.

If you're racing with CCS anywhere else, you'll need a Westhold transponder. It's already set in stone for 2012. You can buy one for $80 or rent one for $25.

    that's the $80 model.
they also offer a $140 chargable one, as well as a $150 wired model.

keep in mind that it doesnt include the pouch (or charger).

website says a little north of those prices, and there is no price on the chargers or holders. starting to sound like a wash.
