Speaking of transponders. What's is the deal for first time racers? Rentals and the like, do we just zip tie em to the bike? or is there somewhere special we have to put them? Also how much do they cost to rent, because I don't wanna spend all that money right up front.

I believe first time racers get a free transponder rental for the first 3 weekends. You will need a mount to put it on your bike. Mounts can be bought at street and comp. Most put the mount on the fork tube between the upper and lower triple clamp. The Mount is fastened to the fork tube with 2 zip ties.

    from the rule book
19.27 Transponders must be mounted according to the following:
19.27.1 Transponders must be mounted at the front
of the motorcycle as close to the axel verticalcenter-line as practical.
19.27.2 They must be mounted vertically, with the fixing
pin up, at a maximum of 120 cm or 4 feet from the race surface.
19.27.3 There must be no downward obstruction between the transponder and the racing surface.
This means no metal, carbon fiber between the transponder and the racing surface.
19.27.4 The maximum temperature should not exceed 50c or 122F.
19.27.5 Transponder holders must be affixed to the machine in a safe and workmanlike manner
    using tye-wraps or pop rivets.
19.27.6 The fixing clip must be pushed through as far as possible.

    Re: Transponders

wired transponder really poses a problem tho if you ever wanna do an endurance race where you need to put your transponder on the bike when you get on it to go out for you session... just sayin

the 3 of us that rode at NJMP this weekend all had failed transponders.
two were purchased that weekend, and mine was purchased last round there (5/5)

    Re: Transponders

we shouldnt buy a new transponder from registration, walk it right to tech & have it fail.
there's an issue with that when it happened to 3 riders in the tech line.
