Yeah, well... this isn't "anywhere else". It's Loudon, where we DO have a Novice class and there ARE Novice race winners.
I go back to my original argument where the track has been saying time after time that they're trying anything and everything to improve attendance and bring in new racers... and yet they're not awarding podium finishers.
That's back asswards.
Scott, in regards to your "life isn't fair" comments... I think that's plainly obvious as there are race WINNERS and race LOSERS. I'm not arguing to treat the losers the same as the winners, I'm only lobbying to treat the winners like... well, WINNERS. How does LRRS expect the series to grow if we treat all Novice racers like last place finishers?
I was at a recent work convention where there was a discussion on how the leading cause of job dissatisfaction today isn't a lack of money, it isn't the fact that a job well done isn't satisfying enough, it's a job that isn't challenging enough or that it's TOO hard (although those do play into it). It's lack of recognition. That's the leading cause of job dissatisfaction today. People want to be recognized when their efforts pay off and they perform well.
Racing, though different, isn't much different in that respect.
I think they should either go back to recognizing Novice podium finishers or do away with the class. Pick one. Don't send mixed signals to the new blood.

Just so I know wtf is really happening, there are no more credits for nv for podiums? No$ off your next race entry? This is bs.

Although it should be the other way around.
It's also possible that it's an Amateur from another CCS region, but was a BRAND new racer and wanted to race in the Novice class.

If that's a 109 on the Amateur plate guy, it's probably John Dorans (never heard of him).

That's also the race that Lorna beat me by less than 1 one hundreth of a second (thanks to an extra 25 hp ). Great race!

doing away with novice would only work if the sport does NOT grow. Just look at mx for an example. If you took away the novice group you would have a billion AM riders and mass chaos.
I agree with what Eric said about getting that first novice trophy, it felt great to start a new form of racing and being on a legendary track like Loudon and walking up to get your first trophy no matter how small or wacky looking it is, eventhough no one gives a crap about a slow novice you still get a sense you did some type of accomplishment that is recognized by the community.

well. then we'll have to agree to disagree... there are 2 takes on this:
1. omg, I didn't get something for beating everyone in my class that I learn to race in. wtf? you suck...
2. ok. so that's kinda annoying and the way it was handled was crappy (not announcing it up-front), but I still had a hellofa awesome time racing. that shit's pretty fun. can't wait til I can earn yellow plates.
and regarding the 14 year old. well. the way it was handled (wasn't announced beforehand) sucks. no 2 ways about it. but I hope he realizes that he had a blast racing (I assume he did), that he is proud of how he did and just how fortunate he is to have a family that is willing to support what he loves. it could be worse, he could've been told "not as long as your under my roof" when he told his parents he wanted to ride/race.
glass 1/2 full or 1/2 empty. you choose your outlook.
fwiw I see this all the time at work. it's not usually what is done, but how it's presented that makes/breaks it. this would be a classic example.
as far as doing away with NV class... the whole point of the class is to give them a sandbox to learn how to race safely/figure out if it's something they really wanna do AFAIK. with this year's changes in-place I think LRRS has it pretty much right.

Oh, Scott btw, nice pic of you and your bike in your profile with the novice plates. I don't think you should have that picture because you were not a real racer as a novice....poser!! :

As an AM, I cared about my first win Trophy. All the others after that just didn't seem to matter.
As a NV, man, those things were like a badge of honor. I became a racer and won. I look back on those with the fondest memories.

It's the one David posted. There were a couple of them if I remember correctly. Results from that race are in a link I posted further back in the thread. Oxx took 2nd. I finished behind Lorna and Watt was right behind me.
