The Hawk is in Period IV, Formula 3 provisional class, pre Dec. 31st 1989. This is also the class for Suzuki GS550 and Kawasaki EX250/500; current models allowed.

Four cylinders are restricted to steel frames for F1/F2/F-EX, missed the provisional rules for F3. (Hidden at the end of the book) Year cutoff and displacement caps block my Fizzer. And I'm guessing they meant GS500, not 550...

Looks like the Hawks got shut down on the 2011 rule book. There's no Period IV, Formula 3.

5.8 Period IV Classes: Formula 1, Formula 2
and Formula EX/GS
5.8.1 Formula 1
Eligibility cut-off: Dec. 31st, 1985, No updating beyond this year.
Similar, later models without performance improvements may
apply in writing for approval. The use of tire warmers is permitted
for Formula 1.
• 4-stroke air-cooled, steel frame
unlimited displacement (1103cc maximum)
• 2-stroke 750cc maximum
5.8.2 Formula 2
Eligibility cut-off: Dec. 31st, 1985, no updating beyond this year.
Similar, later models without performance improvements may
apply in writing for approval.
• 4-stroke air-cooled 650cc maximum
• 2-stroke liquid cooled 350cc maximum
• 2-stroke air-cooled 500cc maximum
5.8.3 Formula EX/GS
Eligibility: 4-stroke, 500cc maximum
No restrictions on model year.
All other rules of Formula 1/2 apply.

I read that as 4 bangers can be aluminum if they are in Formula 3.

i know there was some confusion regarding our fzr400 before the race but in the end it was approved.. im going to contact them prior to this years race to make sure there is no issue but we were allowed to race and thats all that matters.

That would be my read as well. That same restriction is listed for F1 and F2, sans the bit in read which is what I was remembering.

I would imagine the provisional class threw them off. The FZR fits in the P4 F3 classification and should be legal even though it is an aluminum frame.

FYI John, I don't believe your Hawk would fit with the RC51 front end. Forks and brakes must be period hardware.

We're going to have to see what the schedule brings. Like Kerry says, there is a two day event in August and it makes much more sense to have it then. I'm not quite sure if I was aware of it when I said Labor Day.
Might be a good weekend for any of you who want to get married, too. Bob Coy is a Justice of the Peace and the Reverend Stephen Flach (#95) is available to bestow blessings upon you.
We really run a fun organization. The only reason they pull you aside to tell you to chill ahead of time is that they heard about Angel Cruz!
Most likely as in the past, your LRRS license will be good for this event, just have an AMA membership card on you. (Or buy one at the gate.)
Oh, and belly pans for everyone. Real ones, not Wal Mart turkey basters.

And im glad we could provide entertainment for everyone lol, im tellin you this year will be twice as fun if I can get everyone to follow up on saying they will be there. such a tress free fun weekend , reminds you why we suit up and battle on our LRRS weekends, because its fun.
