    full VIR Race Report 9/22/07

Last week I pondered if I should go racing at VIR on the 22nd. Friday came around and said sure why not. Note i had all week to get the bike ready. Friday morning woke up and got the bike. Found it had a dead battery and needed a new water pump gasket. Replaced those items and made a catch basin for my lower fairing. loaded up everything in the trailer.

Saturday morning. Wake up at 4am and off to VIR i go. Parked the truck and trailer and made my way over to registration. Filled out all the paperwork and stood in line. Luckily i was about the 8th person in line. Registration was a breeze. Got my license, registered for my races, transponder, and paid with a CC all in one window unlike LRRS.

During registration i found out i was going to lose my number 419 . oh well. i dicked around all year. so now im AM 484 in the ccs se region

Went out for practice. First 2 laps couldnt do shit right. I guess that happens when you ride the bike once every 6 months. Red flag came out and pitted in till the ambulance was off the course. Went back out and felt alot better. till i got to Turn 7 on the 2nd lap when my shift linkage broke. Not good when i was expecting to down shift twice. sat there till the end of practice and the crash truck came and got me. Talked with neighboring racers and got ahold of another shift linkage. Ended up missing 2nd practice while mounting the new shift linkage and put on some new tires.

I was also planning on racing 2 races today. but i read the schedule wrong and now i have to come back up tommorow. I will probably end up registering for another race for tommorow as well. Right now im waiting for my GTL race (4B)
    ----
I had 2 goals in this race. Pass at least 1 person, and finish the race. Had a decent start in gtl. got quickly passed my a assload of sv's and other more powerful bikes. i quickly found a sv that i would be able to take. He would run away in the straight areas, but id catch him in the turns. right as i goto pass him the bike starts running like ass. so i decided to take it easy for the rest of the race. not much happened. saw a few downd bikes and got passed alot. finally white flag is waving. comming down the rollercoaster i caught upto the guy i was trying to pass earlier. made my move in the last corner and passed him. not sure how i stood in the final standings. i should know sometime tommorow
    ----
    Sunday
Started the bike up and it ran fine. Went out for practice and it started acting up again. Brought it back in and tried cleaning the carbs. Nothing. Then tried switching the carbs. These worked but were leaking fuel. Unfortently i ran out of time and missed my first race. Pulled apart the first set of carbs and found debris in the left main jet. Cleaned it out and gave it a few test revs. it was no longer diein t 7k rpms. Great. Put the bike back together and now im waiting for Race 10. Right now the team & solo challenge race is going on which is 69 laps. . So i have a while to wait
    ----
During race 8 a extended red flag came out and the rest of races for the day were cut from 7 laps to 5 laps. Went out for race 10 in a field full of sv's. acknowledge that fact id probably finish last. just went out and had some fun. ended up finishing 12th out of 13. better then dead last.

now im debating on either getting a 250 or sv. not sure what i want to do. i do know the EX has just killed its usefullness to me for good. overall i had a fun weekend. met some awesome people. and saw some awesome sceneary.

Word up man. Great to see LRRS's repping in other circuits. Not bad having VIR as your 'local' track.
