    New bike for racing?

    I want to enter the AM (or Rookie next year) Production Twins class.

    I've been looking for used EX500s and everyone wants way too much for beat and flogged EXs.

    I found a dealer thats got 2004 new EXs for $4100 OTD and Kawi is running a promotion..$40 bucks a month for 3 years.

    Granted is odd to race a new bike but considering that everyone else wants almost half for bikes that are so beat is this such a bad choice?

    I figure I'd have everything new and fresh so that for the next 2 years Im almost guaranteed not to have any mechanical issues.

    This a good way to go or not?

    If it's within your budget...Why not?...Just remember, you'll be needing to swapp out some stock shit for race counterparts.

    You're not thinking of racing a bike that is financed are you?! That is nuts. You will have trashed the bike before you pay for it! There should be plenty of examples available for under 2k.

    I agree. You would be crazy to buy a new one to turn into a race bike. If you were to spend $4,000 buy a SV not a EX.

    You should be able to easily find a good, race-prepared EX 500 for around 2K. If you buy a new EX and finance it, you will still have to get it prepped for the track. Do you have a drill press? If not, you would need to get one of those in addition to the new bike. If you're new to racing, you need not spend a bunch of money on something new or something that looks good. Many of the race EXs available have had work done to them to make them more competitive.

    Don't listen to these guys....Especially that KAK Lip. I think you should go finance a NEW ZX10R, then you can be competative.

    Buy my bike after the race season is over. It has all the mods race-tech emulators, ohlins rear shock, wood-craft clip-ons and rear sets, race plastic, front and rear frame sliders, plus another set of rims for your rains. here's a pic.

    There is something to be said about a seasoned engine;

    As a rookie, you won't want to break in and replace the weaknesses of a new machine, you want a sure bet so you can concentrate on your times, learning the track, and schedule.

    Most used racebikes come with spares. Most new machines don't.

    If you like the racing environement, sell the old one for a brandy new machine, don't be the guy that buys all new equipment without ever experiencing what they are getting into and have to sell because they decide racing it isn't for them.

    I would say $2000 is a decent price for a race prepped EX. There is a lot of tedious things you need to do to get it ready for tech.

    Keep looking I only paid $1300 for mine...beside reliablility should be too much of an issue..there is not a lot to the EX. And worst case...a new/used motor for an EX isn't that much $$

    You could always spend 5500.00 and buy a RSV Mille.
