    WERA events

A few people showed interest in attending some WERA events this season as a group. Rather than trying to remember who everyone was with the hopes I have your e-mail, I have decided to put up this thread.

I will be heading to Summit Point in WV for the June 2 and 3 event

To save on some of the questions that will come up:

Anyone can purchase a temporary weekend license thru WERA at the events. I believe they are $30 but as with anything it's best to contact the office to confirm

I do not know how one would pre-enter when using a temp license but I do know anyone can show up, get the temp license and sign up for their races at the event

CHECK THE MOTORCYCLE PREP PAGE. A CCS-prepped machine, as far as I know, will not pass WERA tech

I have room for one other race program in my trailer and offer up to 3 seats in the event that your bike ends up in another trailer

I own a generator and easy-up that can support up to 3 machines

    Re: WERA events

I've been asking in the WERA boards regarding tech. Wave rotors and Brembo masters are not SS legal, and also don't allow the .01 bore over on the motors. That seemed to be the big difference for the MW bikes that are CCS legal for SS.

Yeah, WERA's SS is much closer to BOX STOCK as it came out of the crate compared to CCS. Some windshield swaps will even get you in trouble. They also require steering dampers on ERRRYTHANG! FYI.

Bergs, did you spot any big safetwire requirements that CCS doesn't have?

Forgot about that one too. Double bubble windscreens are not SS legal either.

Josh - The biggest thing I noticed as far as safetywire requirements was to wire the coolant drain bolt at the water pump but keep in mind I'm looking at what is required for my 600 and nothing else.

anything that contains a fluid must be secured. (by this i mean any hoses from oil coolers that are bolted on). so pretty much any bolt that is not a case cover of any sort. if you cannot safety wire it then silicone will pass. the brake pad retainer pins, must be safety wired or siliconed. brake calipers & axles must be safety wired. you can use safety pins on the calipers if you like.

    Re: WERA events

so if a MWSS bike passed CCS tech at NHMS, what might it fail tech on a WERA event?
i didnt know about the coolant drail plug. i know about double bubble windscreens, motor mods, aftermarket master and rotor mods.

Jim - Other than the coolant drain, none of what you mention will fail you in Tech.

I suggest going thru the rulebook though. Since your bike is already race-prepped then there isn't much else to prep for, just be aware of which races you enter so you don't get protested.

Bergs, the stuff I mentioned are for SS rules.

The coolant drain bolt is a tech thing.

i have gone through the rules, but i was asking if there's anything else i might have missed. since i missed the coolant drain plug thing, i wasnt sure if there might have been other common rules for SS bikes that are allowed in LRRS, but not in WERA

    Re: WERA events

Chapter 8 from the WERA rule book

    a) The following item must be safety wired, or secured in a manner approved by Tech:

    •axles or axle nuts
    •oil filler caps
    •kickstarter retaining bolts
    •axle caps and/or pinch bolts
    •oil drain plug(s)
    •removable exhaust baffles
    •brake caliper bolts
    •*oil gallery plugs
    •radiator caps
    •brake torque arms
    •oil lines
    •coolant drains
    •speedo and tach cables
    •spin on oil filters/filter bolts
    •any pressure fed lubricant line
    •*fork oil drain screws/bolts
    •rear exhaust mount(s) (all)
    •*brake pad retaining pins

*may be secured by silicone glue or H/D weather-strip adhesive in lieu of wiring.

a1)Substantial gauge “R” type spring clips may be used in certain applications but must be wired to the machine. Tab washers designed to accept safety wire may be used. Safety pin style clips may be used on most items but NOT on oil drains or oil filters.

a2)A catch can shall be fitted where required or at the direction of a Technical Inspector.

a3)Kawasakis wth a stock oil filter clamp must use an additional hose clamp.

    b) Fuel lines and any other fluid carrying lines must be clamped or secured by some other appropriate means.

    c) Water cooled engines may use plain water, or water with Redline (or similar product, call WERA for verification) cooling system rust and corrosion inhibitor at 0.5 ounces per quart of plain water concentration, Silkolene Pro CCA (Corrosion Control Additive) and Royal Purple Purple Ice are also allowed. Glycol based antifreezes are prohibited.

    d) All pre 2001 Suzuki GSX-Rs must have engine case guards installed around the right and left sides of the engine, extending beyond the frame, and are subject to the WERA Technical Inspector’s approval. Case guards on the left side of 1995-97 Kawasaki ZX6R’s are suggested but not required. Yamaha FZR 400, FZR600 and YZF600 machines must have an engine case guard on the right side of the engine. Heavy-duty aluminum replacement covers may be used in lieu of case guards. Stock case covers with extra metal welded on to make them thicker may also be used. 06/07 Yamaha R6’s must used a tank guard of some sort on the sections that extend past the frame rail on either side.. The guard must be approved by tech.

    e) Only one engine at a time may be used.

    f) Only gasoline may be used as a racebike fuel. Nothing may be added to the gasoline except commercially available, approved octane boosters and lubricating oils. No oxygen or nitrogen bearing additives (i.e.: NOS) in any Superbike or Superstock based class.

I went through once, and was treated better by the wera staff, including tech and every other person involved than I've ever been at loudon.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Bergs, I'm down for that June 2nd event with you.

I'll have to check the rulebook again to see if there's unlimited MW classes, so I don't have to change my rotors, windscreen, and master cylinder.

If you are a Novice you should be okay in A SS/SB. Although i thought Sean said they were not allowing a C Bike in A any more. I am probably wrong. but the best is to either ask in your thread or email him directly at wera at wera dot com.
