    What would you do...

If you were getting back into boston at 5pm on sat night of the first race weekend (will be in DC for the week), as a novice ptwin racer?

I'm not thrilled about the idea of missing the first race weekend, but I don't see any good way to get my bike up and teched in time for sunday morning practice, and though I'd have plenty of time to prepare for the PTWN race (seeing as it's the last race on sunday) I'm not too thrilled about the idea of doing my first race ever without having done some practice laps.

Thinking about coming up sat night and staying for the sunday races helping out my fellow PTWNers, but leaving the bike at home and starting the season out the right way, with practice time, in May.

What would you do, if you were me?

tech opens at 7am, you have plenty of time as long as you know the bike will pass and you are already registered for your race. Worst case, you only run the second practice (your's will be at 9:30am) and then your race whenever that is

dude, you live like 1/2 a mile from the track... get home, pack yer shit & either come up & camp at the track, book a room or get there in time for practice

If ya want i'd be more than happy to figure out how to get to your place to help get your stuff ready & to the track for sunday morning practice.

You don't have to do the rookie race? I take it you're already licensed.

Go for it! That's nothin. You wouldn't believe some of the trials people have had getting to the track. I'm sure you'll hear some of the stories around the fire this year.

I took the cornerspeed course down at VIR. This included a mock race after the class with a race start, where they sent instructors down the field to buzz us in the corners to prepare us for being passed. They also covered all the flags and race procedres, the diploma qualifies us for a CCS/WERA license without anything further from what I understand.

I wouldn't mind doing the mock race if I was there on saturday just for the track time, but I'm pretty confident that they prepared us well for what we should expect in a novice race.

Thanks for all the advice, I was hoping to find a way not to miss the first race as I figure that would put me behind the game...I'll get my ass and bike up there sat night and try to be first in line to tech in the morning so I can get both practices in if possible...need all the track time I can get...

I agree. You've got plenty of time.

As Paul said, there are stories of racers showing up within a couple hours of their race without the engine in their frames and made it to the grid. I don't recommend that, but it gives you an idea of what's possible.

Getting registered and tech'd on Sunday morning can be stressful and you won't likely make the first practice, assuming you're in the Red Novice group, which is first out, but you'll be glad you did and will look back on it as not a big deal.

He'll be in good hands, he'll get through tech.

From what I understand, WERA won't license until you go through a whole weekend without falling. They call it Provincial Novus.

Check with Penguin, but it's good to go through the motions.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
