    Wow! Spec fuel announcement

Here is a newer cleaner fuel from VP which should cost around $12/gallon.
VP RACING'S NEW MOTORCYCLE FUEL PUSHES EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY ENVELOPE

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- VP Racing Fuels, Inc. announced some bad news for powersports enthusiasts--it's discontinuing U4, its most popular racing fuel in the powersports market. The good news? VP came up with something even better--U4.1.

"U4.1 is an updated version of VP's U4 racing fuel, with improvements in several significant areas," said Steve Burns, VP's President and CEO. "Compared to U4, U4.1 offers up to 2% more power -- translating to as much as 8% more power than premium pump gas -- as well as no sticky residue and a less pungent aroma -- all for a lower cost. This is a major technological step, considering that since its introduction in early 2004, U4 had become perhaps the most successful racing fuel in the powersports market and VP's fourth-best-selling fuel overall.

"For its time, U4 was the most technologically advanced fuel on the market for its targeted applications," Burns continued, "but there are always improvements that can be made. At the time of U4's introduction, the engineering trade-off was a significant gain in horsepower while accepting its propensity to accumulate a gummy residue during storage, requiring fuel tanks to be drained between uses. For competitors, this was a small inconvenience in return for 6% more power than premium pump gas at an economical price.

"The development of U4.1 -- a fuel with all the upsides of U4 and none of its downsides -- is a real breakthrough and just the latest example of VP's technological leadership," Burns added. "Although not a high octane fuel, U4.1 runs in engines with 10:1 to 12:1 compression with excellent resistance to detonation. Technologically speaking, this is the best fuel we have ever produced."

Like U4, U4.1 is designed for all 4-stroke applications as well as stock 2-strokes. "There's virtually no powersports application that couldn't benefit from this fuel," said Burns. Oxygenated with ethanol, U4.1 is legal for off-road use throughout the U.S. Although U4.1 is illegal for AMA Pro Racing due to its oxygen content, it's still legal for AMA amateur, CCS, WERA, AFM and club level racing. It will retail for $9-11 per gallon, depending on the size of container ordered.

U4.1 will yield faster and more responsive engines without harming carburetors, O-rings or gaskets like some other race fuels will. According to Burns, its power gains compare to VP's best AMA Pro level race fuels for less than half the cost -- a comparatively easy, inexpensive way to generate additional power. For example, a new exhaust system wouldn't generate as big a power increase and the increase would be on a smaller slice of the RPM range, while U4.1 produces power gains at all RPM levels.

Over its 32-year history, VP Racing has fueled champions in virtually every racing category and class -- from drag racing, road racing and circle track to motocross, off-road and off-shore. VP has earned a reputation for producing high quality racing fuels with superior power and consistency -- as illustrated by its sweep of all AMA Pro Racing Championships in Superbike, Supercross, Motocross and Supermoto in 2006.

VP is also the official, spec fuel and/or contingency sponsor of AMA Supercross, AMA Motocross, Prostar AMA, NHRA, SKUSA, Stars of Karting, Rmax Challenge and numerous other sanctioning bodies.

In addition to fuels, VP's product line includes performance chemicals, specialty lubricants, traction compounds and racing-related accessories -- each designed to produce the most power and best performance in their respective racing applications.

How much was U4 per gallon last year?

Where in this article do you get less toxins? Or by cleaner, do you mean literally, as in you don't have to flush your fuel system after usage?

VP said cleaner on the motor and less odor. Isn't the odor the real issue? If you really think by us having 9 race weekends a year we are adding that much pollution to the air you have to be crazy. If you think by running a spec fuel will make things more competitive your crazy to. People will now just spend extra $ to get there motors built up.

I don't think the odor is the concern it's the toxins. I like the smell of race gas, I think most people do.

I would guess the odor is a perfume. Lots of chemical companies do that.

I was just trying to point out that there is no real info there. Was there more to the article?

What was the price of U4 last year per gallon? I honestly don't know.

I think it was 12 - 13 if I remember right. I seem to remember paying $65 for 5 gallons. Sounds like the U4.1 is cleaner for the bike, nothing about the environment. (why is it spelled envi-RON-ment?)

However, it's all a moot point, we won't be using the stuff in loudon.

I think that this issue that everyone is making such a big deal over is going to be a dead issue after the first weekend or two. The Woods' are class acts and aren't looking to make this change to turn a profit. They sure as hell aren't going to do it in a way that is going to make getting your fuel a real pain in the ass. That's no

Well, I'm one of those guys that're gonna have to re-map. I found out that my bike runs mighty lean for some reason on the plain-jane Sunoco 110 leaded stuff down at Homestead.

In that case I'm going to have to see about putting together a little road trip. That looks like 1 helluva circuit! Plus I've heard a thing or two about the night life up in that part of the world...

So the 2007 rule book is out and all it says is there will be a spec fuel for 2007 but it isn't determined yet. So what happens if you don't run the spec fuel? It doesn't say anything in the rule book on what will happen if you do.
At what point will they say lets make the fuel thing happen in 2008? We are a little over a month away from the season opener and still nothing?

I just thoroughly enjoyed reading other peoples views on this topic across the country. Obviously everyone's quivering over the "ban on race fuel", but none and I mean none of them seem to be aware of the fact that LRRS is trying to police where we buy pump gas. If I had more motivation I'd sign up for these other forums and open that can of worms. My guess is everyone be having a conniption!

    Gang,

Since the banquet we found out that the only fuel that the track will
have is a special Sunoco gas for the new NASCAR rules that might not
work out for us. That is different information than we started with.

After a lot of deliberations and proposals, we have an agreement with
VP to be our fuel supplier for the 2007 LRRS series. We will have two
fuel choices. One: a 93 octane fuel. Two: C 12 VP race gas. It will be
available at the track from Thursday on - for the first race and from
    VP distributors.

VP will pay contingencies right at the track and you will not have to
wait for CCS. VP will be our series sponsor and contribute to the dash
    for cash program.

Full details will be posted tomorrow by the folks who worked hard on
this project. Please don't start complaining until you have read them.
While the standard 93 will cost the average rider a bit more per
weekend than the pump gas that we can't control, VP will pay us back
    through the contingency program.

These rules are in place for safety reasons as well as to lower the
racer's cost and level the playing field.

    Jerry

Anyone know the approx price per gallon of both fuels?

    Is C 12 oxygenated?

Both are non-oxygenated. C12 is just a higher octane.

So if I am reading this right, those of us that typically use 93 pump gas will now just haveto buy it at the track?
