Here's a link to chargers. They also have chargers for the old style too.

any issue with going with the direct powered model?? Cheaper and don't have to worry about charging. Could rig it so it could swap between bikes. Where would be a good place to mount?

No one uses it because they've always been provided.
I was thing about it too. It's only a $40 difference.
CCS used to make everyone put their transponders on the tail. It was kinda nice having everyone have to put it in the same spot but LRRS doesn't care so a lot of people try to put them as far forward as possible. The wired one looks smaller and could really go anywhere provided the wire is long enough.

when I bought my bike there was/still is a transponder bracket on the upper fork leg. it has an arrow pointing down and says to aim it towards the ground. not very easy to do if its mounted on the tail.

Pigman, I'm in for the group buy if it gets going.

AMB recommends a verticle mount with the antenna end pointing straight down at the pavement. In the interest of accuracy, they should all be mounted on the front fork. When I worked in Timing and Soring, there were a lot of issues caused by inconsistent mounting.
The only drawback to a wired transponder is when you're running more than one bike. It's not that easy to switch.

IMO...fork leg is good place to destroy a transponder in a crash, as is the tail. I have mine mounted on top of the triple tree. I figured it would be pretty tough to fuck that up.

upper left fork leg on the outside between the triples is kind of behind the fairing on my bike. probably a better spot than on top of the triple.

I don't think anyplace is safe on the fork. And now that people have to fork out $400 of their own money people may reconsider these things.
You said its between the tripled behind the failing. Potentially the fairing could impact the transponder in a crash. The only time I've ever seen damage to the top of the triple is when someone loops it or fails at a stoppie. I guess it could happen where ever you put it though.

I believe you can still rent units, and after so many rentals if you keep your receipts you are given a transponder.

I've fucked up the top of my forks before, if there was a transponder there it'd have been smashed. However, when you crash anything on your bike is fair game to get broken.

    $60 with Wera or LRRS?

either way if you do 7 weekends in your life you might as well buy it if that's how much rental is.
