    Yamaha Experts 2005 R6?

I'm looking for feedback on picking up a 2005 R6 as a race bike as an amature for Loudon.... I'm all ears, its got Ohlins front and rear 25mil kit front. Are these good/bad?
Is there a huge difference between say 05 and an 07?

    Thanks

    T.H.

not too too much difference. The 05 was the best of the 2nd gens. A bit more power than the 03/04s, better brakes, and inverted forks. Here's a sweet page that lets you compare everything between the years:

I used to have an 05 R6 and loved it. It fit my body better than any bike I've rode/sat on. It felt like I was one with the bike. If I were planning on racing/doing track days I would have definitely kept it.

It'll hold its own in the AM class. Giacamaro (sp?) ran his 2nd gen for years with great success as an EX. The 07s were certainly a step up in the geometry department but theres nothing wrong with an 05. I got my R6S down to a 15.0, and SG set a record back in the day on an 03. If I were to choose I'd buy an 08+ but I wouldn't worry about it if the 05 fits your budget.

I ran 15/49 for gearing if I remember correctly.
