    '03 600RR - running hot

Anyone have a manual for an RR that can tell me the normal running temp?

Also, can you look up how many amp the fuse is for the fan?

how hot? my bike used to overheat like a mofo (hit 255... when the coolant boils) but I replaceld a dinged coolant line that runs outside of the frame, flushed the radiator and burped it, and now it runs ok except on very very hot days. It'll still overheat in stopped 90 degree traffic. But typically it'll run at about 220-235 when I'm not riding down the road at 35+ mph.

The coolant starts to flow at 176-183F. This is when the thermostat opens up. Then the coolant fan kicks on at 220F. If neither of these things are happening, replace the thermostat or figure out why the fan isn't kicking on. Make sure the fan is blowing the correct way, too... which is towards the rider.

As far as the amperage on the coolant fan, I'm not sure. It doesn't list it in the manual and I don't have a multimeter at home to measure it. I fail as an engineer.

The fan never kicked on yesterday and it was running about 240.

I have drained the coolant and flushed it out. I pulled the fan and hooked it up to some power and it worked. Test light shows power at the fuse (found it...its a 20 amp) but I don't show any power at the fan plug.

I really don't want to have to pull the tank to get to the harness

    How do you 'burp'?

Usually a few beers will do it.

Seriously. Fill with coolant. Leave cap off. Start bike and get some temp in it. Blip the throttle a few times. Might have to repeat but it usually gets it in one or two tries if that is the problem.

make sure to let it run up to 180F to allow the coolant to start flowing. You can tell that it's 'burping' by looking down into the radiator cap opening when you blip the throttle to see the coolant gurgle down when air escapes. Once it stops bubbling then you've successfully burped it. I usually fill up the radiator full with coolant after and try burping it again.

Good to see you got the fan working! That should probably fix it
