    03 SV1000 Slave Cylinder Leak

    Hey Guys
Anyone with an SV1000 ever have the slave cylinder leak on you? I found where mine leaked at some point in its past. I heard from the old owner it may be pretty normal with these bikes. If you have had it happen to you what was the fix? Thanks

ive had it happen on ducatis. the fix was to buy a new slave from yoyodone or evoluzione because the stockers sucked so bad and always failed.

Re: 03 SV1000 Slave Cylinder Leak

Is the slave leaking or is it the seal to the motor where the clutch push rod goes through? If it's the slave, then get a new piston seal (o-ring type thing) and slave seal. If it's the seal to the motor, then you might end up having to split the engine cases to change it. The trick is to keep lube and gunky dirt from the chain from getting in and around that area. That's what blows the seals out.

Yep, rebuild the slave or buy a new one.

And just a note: I'm nearly 100% positive you can swap out the pushrod seal on that motor w/o opening it up (assuming its similar to the TL motor). There's just a sheet metal bracket w/ 2-3 screws and then you can pop the seal out.

If this is the seal that is leaking, do yourself a favor and mod up a guard for the pushrod. The pushrod is exposed and gets hammered by stuff flying off the chain. This knicks it up and kills the seal. If you want more info on how to do this, let me know and I'll find a writeup. I did it on mine for <$2 + a new pushrod.

Nice. Suzuki changed the design. They used to only be replaceable from the inside and you had to either split the cases or get a gynecologist to replace it through the water pump opening.

I just did one on a Honda Magna. That was fun.....not.

Please do send over the write up that would be great. It doesnt seem to be leaking anymore but I would rather look into it now than have more fluid leak all over the motor.

oh and degs I cant tell exactly what is leaking yet because I havent taken it apart. I just noticed it yesterday while I was doing all my fluid changes. Gonna wait for the write up then have a crack at it with Q's help since I am not the best mechanic.

Yeah, very easy job. A common mod for the TLR is to use the SV's seal and metal bracket; seal is a bit thicker. Direct swap.

    Split cases? No thank you!

pretty sure you can change the SV1ks over to mechanical instead of hydraulic if you so desire in the future

    Here you go: http://www.tlzone.net/forums/frequen...hrod-saga.html

I used a VERY light spring and a plastic spacer which was about 30mm long. I just pulled the slave off yesterday and its been doing a perfect job.

You can check this yourself pretty easily. 2 bolts and the slave comes right off. You can take a peek at the slave and the pushrod to see if anything is leaking as well as check condition of the pushrod.

okay thanks. As I understand, the slave is a sealed unit correct?

    Yes. Unless its leaking.

Slave is very similar to your brakes. There's a piston with a couple seals. There is also a pretty heavy spring inside the housing to help push the piston out. For this reason the piston will probably creep out a little when you remove the slave, so you may have to push it in a bit w/ your hands before re-installing. So watch your master cylinder reservoir - don't want to overflow.

Re: 03 SV1000 Slave Cylinder Leak

Really not much to it. Slave pushes a metal bar (pushrod) into the engine. That bar is exposed. You put a sleeve over the bar to protect it. The sleeve should be shorter than the exposed bar. Reason being is that you don't want the sleeve to bind between the piston and the seal. So you put a small spring in between the piston and the protecting sleeve. This will take up the slack when clutch engaged and will also help keep the sleeve pressed against the motor side.

    Here's a pic (not mine):

I'd personally make the sleeve a bit shorter than what it is in this pic. Mine has a wall thickness of maybe 2-3mm so the spring butts up against it.

Re: 03 SV1000 Slave Cylinder Leak

If the slaves are the same on the SV as the TL (good chance they might be), I have some spares I'm selling.

    2 S/Cs
1 set of new OEM seals
2 SS lines (Spiegler and HEL; both for Brembo M/C)
    Spring and sleeve - freebie

If either of you guys are interested...

Re: 03 SV1000 Slave Cylinder Leak

I am asking $60 for the S/C pkg: both slaves, new seal kit, new pushrod. No idea if pushrod is proper length for SV though.

Related: I have a very nice billet Brembo 19x18 clutch master from my TLR as well as the OEM TLR clutch master. The Brembo makes for a nice upgrade. Asking $300 which includes the HEL stealth black SS line, OEM Brembo non-folding lever, red pazzo shorty and banjo switch. I would keep the Brembo, but I need a 16x18 for my Aprilia...so would take trade for equal condition 16x18.
