07 ZX6R Valve ticking sound potentially? Advice?

FWIW; I've had the same OEM cam chain tensioner in my race bike for 3 years.

I'd say just ride the thing. Keep the valves checked during the recommended intervals and forget about it.

Kawi's are known for sounding like throwing screws in a blender.

The CCT could be the answer, another notorious Kawi flaw.

OR, ever had a car/truck run low on oil? When you start it cold the valves tick like crazy until the pump can draw up enough oil into the head and it runs smooth. Did you add the correct amount during your last oil change.

So why would a cam tensioner go bad at 9k miles? arnt they self adjusting? How much do they go for?

FWIW, I went through 3 OEM tensioners in under 3K miles while my bike was still under warranty, I got sick of the dealership having the bike for weeks at a time for a simple part swap so I eventually just through a heavier duty tensioner in there myself.

Would you be surprised to discover the number of people out there that are certain their Honda has the same problem with the CCT or are convinced that their 2nd gear is bunk, or the valves in their FJR are ticking, or...or...or...or....?

Point is, a lot of the "issues" that people voice concerns over are ultimately nothing at all and the subsequent parts replacement exists only to provide a level of comfort.

During the late 90's into early 00's the ZX-6R had a faulty/weak spring in the OEM tensioners, that's what I meant by notorious Kawi flaw, I should've been more clear. The answer back then was to replace it with a ZX-7R/9R tensioner. I'm unsure if the weak spring issue continued into the '07 models.

I completely agree with you about people hearing "issues" with their machines though.

I just did an 07 with the exact problems for a member on this site...valve adjustment and cam chain replacement later...all ticking was gone... seems to me that maybe the dealer is full of shiznit..

Ray resolved my ticking issue. Replaced the stock one with an APE. Thanks again Ray...going to Thunderbolt on Monday to take it for its second run.

As an update: literally my bike started up one day with the same noise, then like an elf hit a switch inside, it became perfectly quiet again. I think the tensioner clicked a notch on its own and tightened up. Dont hear the noise any more. Didnt have to do a thing.

Ear plugs help a lot. Mine's really quiet when I have them in.

Shrug... 14k on my '07 zx6r. Had the valves serviced at 12k since they were in there for some other stuff.
