95 ninja starter

ok got an update on the bike. Pulled the starter today to take it apart. Still trying to figure out what the broken stuff is obviously a part that needs replacing. But everything else looks pretty good I think. This is the first time I've took apart a starter so not sure what good looks like. Anybody know what the broken part is before I look it up?

The broken part is called a "starter". Buy a new or used one.

hahahaha very funny I'm talkin about the peices in the lower right hand corner of the picture. They're non mettalic and after studying my manual can't find anything that would look like that. Doesn't make sense and I found them rattlin around inside the starter but no pictures of anything that looks like that. Why buy a whole new starter when it seems like it's some little broken peice. I checked the specs on everything else and everything is up to specs. Yep I'm a cheap bastard lol.

They are called brushes. Available from an electric motor repair shop. Clean up the comutator before you pit it all back together again.

Thanks degsy but aren't the brushes the square metal things that fit in the slots connected to wires? THe peices I found almost seem plastic like they were once square when they were once whole. What I think are the brushes still measure 7/16 long which would put them within service specs. I could be wrong here.

Both brushes look fine. I have no idea what the broken bits are.

Possibly the brush holder, or epoxy from around the windings.

One piece looks to have a portion of a bolt hole remaining. I would guess that it is indeed a part of the brush plate.

I think you will only be able to buy a complete brush assembly which will include everything that's token.

The parts diagram shows a washer that I don't see in the photo. Not sure if it's metal or not (the description is lacking), and the pieces don't look like they'd make a washer shape when put back together, but I have to ask, did you find a washer in there?

I forget, why is the starter out and apart? What was the original symptom?

I have to change the terminal stud because it was rusted and broke the connector and when I pulled it aprt these peices came out I think they're a spacer for the terminal stud in the cap because there is a square groove in the thing

find a used one for cheap... what kind of ninja ?

Part 21169-1058 includes the stud, the +12V brush and what has to be a non-metallic spacer that happens to be square with a hole in the middle. You can't buy just the stud so that $35 part ought include everything you need to fix it.

I assumed it's a ZX600 E3.

I see more than 10 ninja starters on eBay for under $20
