I'll try to sum up this issue as best as I can...
I have an 09' R6, exactly 2k miles on it. Bought new this April 2010.
I attended the BOMO day on the 29th, the bike ran great. I packed up, went home and stored the bike until the following week. The following Monday I started the bike, let it idle for approx. 10-15 min while I got my truck ready before loading it up for the two TTD's that I signed up for. The bike ran fine, no issues at all.
Tuesday morning the 5th... I arrived at the track, unloaded my bike and gear. Started the bike, drove through tech, no issues. About 45min later, while I was suiting up for my first session I started the bike to warm it up. While I was getting ready, I noticed that it was idling funny. At first I just figured it was cold, so I continued to get ready while it warmed up into the 185F range. It still was idling weird, but I attempted to go down hot pit, but the bike had no power and the symptoms were as if I lost spark in a cyl. Brought it back to the garage, and started investigating.
With what minimal tools I had, I checked the obvious. I'm getting spark from all the plugs, and all the coil packs are firing. None of the plugs are oil or fuel soaked and there are no engine codes present. Gas is fresh 93 octane, from the same batch I used 5 days prior. The bike and fuel were stored in a dry environment. Plugs exibit proper coloring.
I worked on it in the garages from 9am until 2pm before I threw in the towell and packed it up (pissed none the less after wasting two days of tracktime... ) Brought it home, ripped it apart again and checked it over some more. Same result.
Since its under warranty, and I don't want to be tossing money at it, I brought it back to the stealership to have them diag and repair it (can't stand someone else working on my stuff...). They've had it since the 6th, and they still can't figure out what's wrong with it. So far they've checked what I already checked twice, and "think" it may be a computer, so they've ordered a new ECU. They have not however checked for compression to see if a valve is hung-up nor have they check if an injector is plugged.
I am extremely doubtful that a new computer will fix the issue. I would expect that if the ECU is toast, then the bike wouldn't run at all, or it would be throwing some type of code. All 8 injectors and coil packs are monitored by the ECU and would throw a code if they weren't operational. I'm hoping that its not a valve that's hung up, but there are no noises coming from the top end or anywhere else in the engine. It just sounds like a Daytona 675 when running...
Looking to get some opinions on what the issue(s) may be. Also, if it is something internal to the engine, do I let them fix it? Something about these techs working on my bike doesn't sit well with me and I'd be concerned that its not done properly. How would you approach this situation?
Thanks for the help
