1157 led bulbs

    1157 led bulbs

Thinking of swapping out my rear brake/running lights for leds.

The bulb size is 1157. The housing is red, so if I get white leds will it look pink? Or should I get a red colored led?

Also anyone know where they sell these locally? Autozone maybe?

LEDs are directional light sources and you don't have the necessary reflectors to make them work properly. stick with regular bulbs for your taillights. every time I've seen people replace their lights with those LED junk ones you just end up getting a circle of light that I bet most people wouldn't even see.

i had a pair of red 1157-xLX5 bulbs from superbrightleds.com in my ZZR taillights. excellent quality and worked great. i've purchased many more LED bulbs from the same site for various other vehicles and purposes.

only problem was my OEM plate illumination was done by a clean lens in the bottom of the taillight, so that became red as well. this may or may not affect or bother you.

FYI - My housing is red with the reflecting material on the back

You can see the red circles in this photo

Get the red colored LEDs, they will appear brighter. I replaced the tail/brake light in my dual sport with an LED and it works great.

Looking at superbrightleds.com, seem quality. I have read you get what you pay for when it comes to leds.

    What brand did you use?

and the LEDs will be pointing straight back away from the reflectors making the reflectors completely useless.

now picture those red lenses with even smaller red circles of light in them.

do you want less brake light output? when I rode on the street I always wanted more brake lighting because I just don't trust anyone to not rear end me. its your choice though.

yep, almost the same design as in my ZZR. they'll be fine.

go with the red LEDs in the red lens.

    Your 2 cents is appreciated.

My thought is that there are 1157 led's that have a 100 degree light output, I thought that would be sufficient.

just looked at that link. some stuff in there looks like it would be good. I retract my previous statements. I was thinking of just the junk ones you can get at any autoparts store.

no sarcasm in there at all. I meant all of that. I was just thinking of the bulbs that have the LEDs on just the rear facing part. the ones in your link are much better with them on multiple faces. they should work well I think. only looking out for your safety.
