    15/40 to 15/45 gearing for a 600 trackbike

What is that going to do?

Decrease top end and give more acceleration?

What are you 600 guys running at the track for gearing?

I have 15/45 on my newest project and I was thinking 45 was too big. 15/40 is stock on this bike.

    What say the masses?

Its about right start of at 1/3 ratio and drop teeth at the back as you progress.

close, 15/45 is same as 14/42... so go 14/42. This will save you from buying a new chain, last I checked, a new chain cost a lot more than a front sprocket

edit: if this is an dbattenionz thread, to indirectly annouce you have a 600 that you will be selling within a month, GFY.

A 14/42 on a cbr gives it too much swingarm length for me unless you want to cut the chain and take a link out. I never ran a 14 front for chain wear reasons.

It might be a 14/45. I need to double check the front sprocket.

dont different manufacturers have different sprocket sizes? wouldnt it make more sense to say -1/+3 ?

Cut the chain because it was crap. Gonna do the whole set and keep what I have as spares. I like keeping the 15 front... so I should get a 45 year to hit that 14/42 ratio?

I got a 600 to use during trackdays. If i put street stuff on it and sell it this summer or next spring what is the big deal? Maybe I won't like it, maybe I will find something else I like better...?

Ok so if stock is 15/40 and I do the -1/+3 I get 14/43... but as you pointed out I don't like the 14 front either (too much binding).

ZX6R... Not racing, just trackdays and maybe some street.

Gonna order chain and sprockets soon and you guys are confusing the heck outta me!

I went 14/45 if I remember correctly on my 01 zx6r for the street. It's a streetfighter... with fairings and all that stuff it would be setup well for Loudon. I might even be 14/46... not sure. Needed the torque to get me around the corners at reasonable speeds.

    Re: 15/40 to 15/45 gearing for a 600 trackbike

I've never had to go 14 on the front, but i have noticed for track purposes, people are using them, and figured chain wear was negligible.

go 15 if it's a concern, but dont crap out on a chain or use clip master link.

are you noticing any extra wear with a 14T front?

Haven't checked honestly... but I will take note when I get home today lol. I don't think so because the chain adjustments have been minimal. Plus, those sprockets are steel... hard to begin with. Granted, at racing levels... it would likely wear faster than my casual riding on the street.

Only time i've run through chains was on dirtbikes or streetbikes i put many miles on... I've surprisingly had great wear on the moving stuff on my racebikes, but maybe those gold RK chains are just awesome?

    Re: 15/40 to 15/45 gearing for a 600 trackbike

    Honest question here...

Is there a significant difference in rotating masses, say between a 14 vs. 15 tooth sprocket or a 45 vs. 42 tooth sprocket? I'm asking from a practical perspective, not a numerical one (I can easily crunch the numbers myself if I wanted to, but I don't want to get into measuring ounces of unsprung weight). Is this difference completely negligible compared to the increase in rotational acceleration of the wheel sprocket?

EDIT: I understand different materials (alloy vs. stainless, etc) would make a difference, but I guess in this scenario I'm wondering more about using similar materials.
