Anyone got a hex axel tool?

    Guys,

Anyone near me have a 24mm hex axel tool I can borrow for a day?
    http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0397/

I ended up removing my front wheel for something but forgot I needed a special tool to tighten the axel. Looking to borrow one so I can tighten the front axel. I ordered the one off Motion Pro but it hasn't shipped yet and it's coming from Cali so it def won't be here in time for the weekend.

Is it possible to make something with some hardware from Home Depot/Lowes?

I used a 24mm hex bolt with 2 nuts tightened together on the other end, then using a wrench you can loosen your axle.

Yes, Just go to HomeDepot an get a Bolt with a 24mm head and two nuts to fit it. Lock the nuts and put the head into the axle and tourque it down...

I have a set up and its work fine....flip it to take the axle out.....

if you need a pic let me know I will pull it out....but its very simple

Cant you just tighten down the pinch bolts on one side and snug up the nut on the other?

I cant find a photo of the axle. Is it one with the sleeve on the other end so there no nut for a wrench to grab? Or is it one with a bolt or nut on the other end? If it is you dont really need the 24mm hex.

you leave the 10mm pinch bolts tight on the clutch side (recessed female hex axle side) and loosen them on the brake side (22mm flanged hex head bolt). Loosen the 22mm bolt, loosen clutch side pinch bolts, push axle out.

To reinstall, slip axle through, tighten clutch side 10mm pinch bolts, 22mm flanged hex bolt, and lastly brake side pinch bolts.

The bolt / two nuts works well and is cheaper than the motion pro tool. Just tighten the piss out of the two nuts, they have to torque the axle to 72.5 lbs on the gixxers. This worked quite well with a friends bike...older gixxer 1k. I looked for the 24mm hex socket, couldn't find one anywhere except snapon...was like 40-45 bucks. Then later I learned of the motion pro tool

Came across this when I googled:

Wish I saw it before I bought the Motion Pro Tool.

Do you have a sparkplug socket? I have a Husky (Stanley) one that was in a pack of 3 (10$) at home depot...I just pulled the rubber plug out of the inside of the socket, and turned it around.

My caveat...I don't know what size hex I needed, I think mine was 22mm...but with the 3 sizes of plug socket, I think one would fit ok.

..if it makes you feel any better, I needed one for my YZ450 and bought it too, then realized the sparkplug trick by accident sometime later.

I've got a front axel tool... I'll have to double check if its 24mm though.

everything is fine. I just removed the wheel to redo the rim stripe. lot easier to do it with the wheel off the bike. I'm all set I just made a tool myself.
