Exclamation 1999 Superhawk VTR1000f Electrical problem

    Hey guys,
Anyone has any idea what may be the cause of my Superhawk Gauges failing to work???

There is no tail light, no tach, oil light, low beam etc... The turn signals, horn, high beam work, brake light illuminates, and the bike starts and drives...

I checked all fuses too and they are not blown...

What the heck is going on...

This is the first problem I ever had with this bike...

    Help!

make sure the wiring is connected at the back of the gauge cluster. Seems like you lost everything at once. I'd start there... It should all connect in one or two clicky-type connectors...

Thanks Mike... I checked... Everything is connected.
The panel turn signal lights work, but thats about it.

    Could it be the computer?

Have you ever replaced the voltage regulator/rectifier?? I have owned 2 superhawks and have to replace then on both bikes. Eventually your battery will die and your bike will not run.

Just a suggestion and a cheap fix none the less.

I wonder if there's an internal fuse mounted to the circuit board somwhere in the cluster...

Check your voltage regulator. A common problem with them. Put a volt meter across your battery, fire the bike up and you should see the voltage increase. If that checks out try messing around with the starter button. Bump it and see if it affects the lights and stuff. If not time to start searching for a short somewhere.

Thanks... I'll check this out... I'm hoping that this is the only problem...

One thing to mention... I did recently change the tail light to the LED type... I had not rode it since changing, and prior to noticing the gauge problem...

Is it possible that I may have grounded out something in the process of wiring it up?

Looks like the voltage regulator is working fine... Everything checked out on the multimeter... 14volts charging at idle...

I also checked the wiring harness for shorts... None apparent... Anyone heard of this issue, or should I just suck it up and go to Honda

Well.. thats a little far for me to come and take a look at it.

Check your connectors. See if any are corroded. It sounds like it is just something stupid that will take forever to find.
