5mm hex for drill?

Recently I picked up a little cordless bit driver
since my 18 Volt Dewalt drill is a bit of over kill
bolts and screws on my bike.

I'd like to be able to get a 5mm hex bit for it.
But have not been able to find one. I can find
american standard measurement hex sizes like
3/16 etc but not metric.

Anyone know where I can get this?
Seems like a popular tool piece for those with
metric bikes.

Dewalt has a driver kit that has adapters for 1/4 and 3/8 socket drives.

Theres a place in Wakefield, Metric Supply House or something, they've had everything metric Ive ever needed for my bikes. MIght wanna give them a call and see if they have anything.

You want a 5mm hex that attaches via a 1/4" quick-change, correct? I did a quick google search and found that Ingersol Rand makes a number of 1/4" quick change bits, including the metric allen/hex that you're looking for. A good supply house should be able to get 'em. I have a metric set w/ 1/4" drive from Sears, but its not quickchange.

Dude you spend 10$ total.

Go to home depot and buy a 3/8" socket drive adapter.
Then go walk over to the tools and buy a 5mm hex bit "socket" (even though a 3/8" drive with a 5mm hex bit sticking out of it).

I can take pics if needed, but if you can't find the "socket" , just go to sears and tell the dude you want to drive a 5mm hex cap screw with a 3/8" ratchet. But first spend the 1.99$ on the 3/8" - quick drive adapter at HD.

I have a dewalt 9.6v cordless screwdriver that I use this setup with and it's mint.

+1 on using power/air tools to put stuff together (and take apart). Driving lag bolts into a deck, or taking off lug nuts is one thing - but I use hand tools for almost everything I do on cars and motorcycles. It takes longer, but you can feel what the bolt and parts are doing.

As for hex drives - get sets of both straight cut, and ball end. The ball ends are great if you need to work at a little bit of an angle, the straights get the best contact patch on the heads.

That works too (I have these as well). The 3/8" adapter is great for any 3/8" drive socket. The 3/8" socket-mounted allen/hex bits are most useful when you need to use a torque wrench on an allen/hex fastener.

Another thing you could do is get a quick-change 1/4" bit holder. ALso avail at HD/Lowes/etc... Obv. works w/ any non-quickchange 1/4" bit. Very handy piece. Come in various llengths too. Linky

+1 on all the assembly comments and stuff. Power-tool remove. Hand-tighten (tool to torque if needed).

Not 1-uping StrangeGuy's comments. All of these different tools are great and have their own strengths. I'd get one of each.

Saw off the straight part of 5mm allen wrench
and use that !

Yeah, there really is no limit, you'll use them all someday

I have a few drawers of random air tools, and a couple of cordless/electric impacts as well, but my favorite one for working on the bike is this DeWalt 7.2v Screwdriver. Mine is actually 9.6 I think, but it's got the right amount of snap to break the 'light stuff' loose, and snug it back up without much cause for concern (just click torque way loose and then take it to N tightness by hand).

If you do get into the impact drivers, buy the Ryobi bits since none of the 1/4" drive stuff is rated for impact anyways (except $$$$ Hilti and Milwaukee) and they'll just get torn up anyways - the hardnes of the DeWalt bits actually seems to kill them faster.

Its super handy and I wouldnt worry about this baby
