This bike, a 1965 BMW R60 belonged to my uncle who now lives in WA. The bike has been under a tarp in my now deceased grandparents yard for as long as I can remember (plate last dated 91) The house is going up for sale and my family needed it gone. So rather than take $200 for it, he gave it to me.
The paint is in poor shape, faded to a pinkish/brown, the wiring is a mess, there's mice nests in all the holes. BUT, 95% of the bike is there, there's very little rust, it moves, the kick start did move twice last week my dad said- it has since been stuck in the down position.
I resto-modded a CB350 last year and look forward to doing the same to this. I've always wanted a horizontally opposed bike, they sound and look unique. I'm gonna try to keep it mostly original, but will probably have to modify some stuff to complete the project in a budget and time frame that I can live with (and my tastes aren't of those that lived when these were new). I'm looking forward to attending bike shows and swap meets looking for parts and scoworing the internet for pieces and advice. This one will take a bit longer I'm sure but I'm excited.
