    650r Chain/Sprocket Question

    Hey everybody,
While riding it sounds like my chain is working pretty hard. I dunno if it's bad rear wheel alignment or too tight of a chain. I've only had the bike for one season and put on about 3k. The rear sprocket doesn't seem to be worn. I planned on replacing the chain and sprocket in the near future anyways Any help would be appreciated. Located in Shirley,MA

    Thanks again

    Re: 650r Chain/Sprocket Question

How much play is in the chain? You should be able to move the chain up and down 1" total movement at least. It's more likely overtight than undertight. If it moves up and down more than 2" it's probably too loose. Those are just general guidelines. For some more specific information on your specific bike search google.

    Re: 650r Chain/Sprocket Question

Chain play is only about 1/2" up and 1/4" down.

    - Corey, I'll try to narrow down a day and I'll shoot u a pm and see if your avail. Thanks

That sounds way too tight. It can put unnecessary stress on lots of things. Is it tight to the touch? It should seem loose.

Yeah it does seem tight. I imagine when I'm riding it's tighter, correct?

Yes it will tighten up as soon as you sit on it.

Damn that's not good. So should I strt from scratch with a new setup that is adjusted properly? I bet the chin and sprockets are somewhat damaged.

    Re: 650r Chain/Sprocket Question

Before you ride it again give the chain some slack. I wouldn't go as far as replacing everything already. Loosen it up, ride it, and check the chain for loose rolllers and binding links.

I'm also right down the street from you in Bolton. If Corey's working I'll be around all day tomorrow if you want to swing by or I can take a ride over since I hear the sun may be out.
