    adjustable ignition advance?

are adjustable ignition rotors worth the extra $20?

    MZ-124 ($79) adjustable 0 to +6
    Muzzys adjustable advance ignition rotors

    vs

    RTR-KAW-89-04 ($59) +4 (+2/+6 also available)
zx6r, 2000, carb, tuning, factory pro, eddy current, dynamometer, ec997

i've heard the advance makes an improvement on the zx600j engine, especially in the low end - reduces some of the 1st/2nd bouncing at low speed.

not sure if it's something i'd ever need to adjust or change though...

opinions? anyone advanced the ignition on their own bike?

make that $35 more. i found the fixed +4 rotor for $59 shipped, while the adjustable is $94 shipped.

after some discussion with a couple people, i went with the fixed +4 from powersportsuperstore.com

Usually, you can just file the slot a little bigger on the OEM rotor to make it adjustable. It costs 5minutes of time spent with a file and a protractor.

If you've got time to spend on the dyno testing, they MAY be worth the time. The local dyno's belief is on most modern machines, they offer no gains, and may actually be a detriment overall.

    Re: adjustable ignition advance?

    thanks for the tips/suggestions, everyone.

slight improvement down low and a little off the top with +4 timing. it does seem to respond on the throttle a little faster, and the "bouncing" with minimal throttle at low engine speed / low gear is lessened. however, i used my inexpensive yet highly portable butt dyno to determine this so it might all be subjective.

running 93 fuel w/10% ethanol. no pinging under load, even with the engine running hot in traffic (216F at radiator, fan activated). no explosions, no fires, nothing bad yet.
