Unhappy ahh. Dumb oil level question??

Hey guys, does anyone with an F4i know how much oil they usually have to put in after an oil and filter change?? The manual says 3.5 ....I got a good drain and then filled her up but the case was over filled???almost every bike mechanic I talked too says to get the level in the window between the lines. I thought the level was supposed to be up to the top line..any way, I put in just over......and i mean barely over 3.5 qrts of oil in and the level after a few hours was high. I asked a bike tech and he looked at it & said it was overfilled. I went out and got something to suck some of the oil out so I didn't have to take out the drain bolt. I took out about 8.5 ounces of oil, roughly a 1/4 of a quart. and now the level is just below the top line when the bike is perfectly level. the slightest change in lean of the bike drastically changes the level in the window. AM I OK??Does this mean my bike only took just under 3 qrts of oil to fill after a good drain???What should I do?? THanks guys.

    Oil level reply

I filled it on the side stand but I checked it when it was level. I used a bubble meter to make sure the bike was level. I checked with a dealer mechanic today to see what his oppinion was on the level since I took out about 8 ounces out yesturday. He held the bike upright, looked at the level and told me it was perfect. Its just under the top line. He also told me no matter what...over time these bikes burn a little bit of oil. For example if you were drive a 2,000 mile trip and then drain and measure the amount you would probably have a little bit less then you put in. This is also taking into concideration that some oil will stay in the bike given you can never drain everydrop out of the bike when doing an oil change. Any thoughts/suggestions?? AM I all good...Thanks

hey firefag---stop being a neurotic twit!!! if the bike is upright (and doesn't have to be perfectly level) then the oil should be visible ANYWHERE in the sight window---if it's slightly over--it's still ok!!!!!!!!!! now shut the fuck up + ride---pussy

    ahh. Dumb oil level question??

Oil level too high = crank foaming it up. Not good.

Oil level too low = starve the return tube. Not good.

Most bike manuals are not that precise, they just keep copying the last revision. 3.5 is approx. and in liters, you are quoting quarts. There is a difference, liters being less.

Did you change the filter too? If not, it could hold the extra. Your manual is based upon changing the filter with every oil change.

Your bike is fine, your mechanics are correct. The window gives you a little lee-way, just make sure it is between the lines.
