    K@N Air Filter

I,ve installed one on my truck without a problem i get more power and better gas mileage. If i put one in my bike will i have to jet the carbs out? I know i would have to if i was replacing the entire exhaust system but what about just the filter. The headers are stock the can is after market TwoBrothers. Thanks for the help.

    K@N Air Filter

    depends on the bike

for instance on a SV650, K&N filters are known not to flow any better than stock, the only advantage they have is a washable reusable filter rather than a throw away

depends on the bike... most bike there's no benefit and I know my bike already has a cleanable factory air filter.

    K@N Air Filter

1993 CBR 900rr,... thats why i wanted this filter i won't have to buy another one. Just wondering if i have to do anything to the carbs or just throw it in there. I know with my Gixxer i had to jet the carbs but i also put a Vance@Hynes full exhaust system in plus the K@N filter.

Yeah, but you ride a TL, and TL is an acronym for Turd Lover.

Let's see how your TL looks when it turns 14 years old. Steve's CBR is MINT!

As others said it depends on the bike. On the RC51 there is no advantage with aftermarket filters and the 02+ has cleanable elements. My friend says on his 1000rr the BMC filters give like 1 or 2 more hp on the dyno and the K&N filters are junk. The bike can only use so much air and adding more doesnt make a difference.

I know there are some that will take advantage of BMC's. I have the F1 filter, on my TLR, and that alone was good for a couple of ponies. I think spending 65 bucks for 2 HP is quite a deal.

    Re: K@N Air Filter

Sorry if you guys think I am being a Douche Canoe for bring out an old thread. I thought better discuss in an existing thread rather than start a new one.

I opened my air box yesterday to replace the old filter with a new one. To my surprise, it had a K&N. Good and bad because I have to be on TTD on Tuesday and I do not hae the K&N cleaning kit. Depot Kawasaki honda near Portsmouth in closed on Monday. Where can I get a clening kit for K&N near Portsmouth?

Also I saw a lot of dist in teh Air box. Anyone else notice dust in the air box? It was so greasy I had to removeht entore housing and wash it and dry it. Here is a picture after I cleaned the dust a little bit, including a tiny lady bug!

Thanks for the offer. I think I will just buy one as driving to Quincy will be far more expensive!

Since we are on the subject, it seems that some folks think that the factory filters work as well as aftermarket.

Does anyone know if that would be the case on a 02 ZX-7R? I already have a full exhaust and am about to buy an ignition advancer and jet kit, so I was wondering if I should bother spending the extra 50 on a K&N.

I have the '99 ZX-7R. It had a K&N whe I bought it but I did not know. I was going to install a OEM. I wonlt be able to comment on the performance but surely the Free Flow allowed lots of dust to get through. See the picture above.

    Re: K@N Air Filter

mixed feelings really, depends on who you ask. OEM filters filter better than a K&N, have seen the flow / filtration charts proving it. OEM filters better and flows just as good. If you want to go with an improvement, you need a BMC race filter or a DNA. DNA Filters

Apparently the DNA filters increase power like a BMC race, but offer better filtration than the BMC race. Basically after reading what I've read, I'll not buy a K&N again. I know others who yanked K&N's and tossed them as well.

This is ALL bike applications. I can't say anything about car / truck applications.

Thanks guys....I had looked at BMC's and they are about 25 bucks more than K&N's but it sounds like they may be worth the extra coin.

I went with a BMC race, I should have gone with a DNA...but that's even more expensive, $111 for my bike.

from what i've heard if you do a drop in it usually requires a jet or remap (FI).

Yes. It requires a Rejetting for the Carbs. For the FI therefore I am sure there will be a remap. However that should be easier. I know on R1, there is a preset setting for that.
