    Battery powered lighting

Anybody have success with battery powered lighting?

    Say I bought a yzf450...

    Say I tarded said yzf450....

Say I got plates for this 'tarded thumper...

And the stator options were slim to none, and I wanted to be somewhat legal...

Looking for something that is bright enough to get home in the dark if I need to, but has long battery life.

Any enduro/dual sport guys have some advice?

    Re: Battery powered lighting

I personally don't know, but since this was getting no feedback I asked it on a dirt bike forum I frequent where a lot of guys do enduro & long distance rides. I was surprised at the lack of replies, usually feedback is plentiful there and it seemed like the place to ask. Anyway, only possibly useful reply I got was this.
Trailtech and many other have HID systems based on Welch-Allyn's 10-20W
range of burners. They are supposed to work pretty good on battery power.
However, emission characteristics is more or less rotation symmetric which
will give you a lot of stray light blinding you and others. Normal halogen
    bulbs don't have the efficiency.
Was hoping to get some better replies, but figured I'd share what I did get. Good luck.

Use a Odessey(oddessey) battery. Gel racing. Its what I use in my vintage bike with total loss ignition. The are extreme duty. Midjet cars use them in their total loss systems.

    Re: Battery powered lighting

I have a helmet mounted HID light for mountain biking. It's amazingly bright, with a burn time of about 4 hours. In the last year or so they have come out with LED/HID combos for low and high output. Burn time on these ranges from 8 to 3 hours depending on the setting. Hope this helps. A tailight should be no problem for the stator to run - the draw off an LED shouldn't even affect the ignition or charging system.

Think im going to try and wire the moose stator in a way it can get along with my CDI box and not fry things...

Running 2 separate AC circuits, one for lighting, one for ignition.

There are now some powerful white LEDS that should give good light for
a while with a set of rechargeables even converted like maglight.

    Re: Battery powered lighting

I have wired my mx/enduro bikes with 2-9v batteries. I works fine for tech inspection, but it's nothing I would want to be caught out after dark with.
