Just letting everyone know that the tire change guy in Granby CT is garbage. He seriously screwed my new rims up and I suspect I have a warped rotor now too. Looks like he changed my tires with a crowbar. No care what so ever. His name is Pete, has a shop off Cranberry lane. He came recommended by a member. If you value your rims stay far away from him.
End Rant. Continue on.
I can't seem to find anyone listed in the tire changing stickies...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Eric. You're on the CT east side, right? You should've tried Matt napalm or scmutty.
I'd be impressed if he warped your rotor
I tried napalm and he couldn't do it. I was told about pete by a good member so I took the chance. I think he is more known on the other forum.
The rotor may or may not be warped. I haven't ridden it yet but I have a couple thousands run out on it now. I got paranoid when I saw a ding on the side of the rotor so I mounted it and put a gauge on it. Definite wobble on that location. With the gouges in my rim into the metal you could believe a rotor is warped. Looked like he was wedging something between the spokes to get leverage. The powder coating on them is badly scuffed on one edge on all 3 spokes.
Yep... I was outta town last week. I'll start a thread here shortly for tire changing services offered.
Very easy to get a rotor stuck when using the bead breaker on a machine.... a 2x4 or some good care when breaking the bead is needed, particularly on front wheels with larger (310mm+) rotors.
Sorry you had a bad experience, stick w/ the "trusted" guys on here next time... :-\
I have twice scratched rims (very small scratch each time) doing tire changes. I have done thousands of tires though. It happens.
If you're not careful, it's very easy to bend a rotor. A couple of thou is definitely not enough to feel when ridden though.

Oh. And I took a shit load of paint of oreos aprilia tuono rim once, but that was down to Shitty aprilia paint that the bead just pulls off.
I never advertised tire changing (liability and dealing with crybabies), but I have a No-Marr and have changed maybe 50 sets of tires in the last 5 or 6 years, all word of mouth. I've scratched my fair share of wheels doing it and have had a few people get pissed at me. I always point out to them, to clean their wheels before they bring them to me...most don't. I also point out that it's the dirt on your wheels that is doing the scratching, not the machine and the parts contacting your wheel. It's simple with the No-marr, it uses your rim for leverage..if the rim is dirty, it will scratch. Bring me a dirty rim, you leave with a scratched rim, it's that simple.
Yamaha
Good to know this. I had a tire changed at the Dunlop garage last week and they had a sign stating to be sure your tires are clean. I figured it was they just did not want to get their hands dirty.
I get real irritated if someone brings me a filthy wheel to change a tire on. If I'm removing the wheel, fair enough, I'll clean it. If you took the wheels off, take 2 minutes and clean them. I'm balancing them to 1/4 oz and you leave 2 oz of dirt on them?
I changed tires for Miles. Fortunately I never scratched a rim. If it was giving me any trouble I called Miles in to do the tire. Though whenever anyone brought over dirty rims I figured they wouldn't ever know if we scratched them or not. I can tell you this. At night in the garages I would remove my wheels and clean the brake dust and dirt off. I would even clean inside the hub. Clean inside the fender. I would know if you left finger prints. Nice looking bikes should be on the grid. Not a pile of dirt and grease with crap paint jobs.
clean rim is needed, however what you are talking about is mangled rim edge.. on the outside of where the bead sits.. where a typical wheel weight for a car would go.. that is bullshit... I have had 3A motors do mine and they nicked the outer edge a little bit.. if you have a good tire machine and use it correctly, its very difficult to butcher the edge of the rim.
I had napalm do another set for me today and his set up is perfect. No marks like the hack that did my original ones.
For the record my rims were spotless, not even a mark or smudge.
I'm going to have to have the damaged set re powder coated to look right again. They will need to be stripped and the deeper gouges sanded out. The front rim is completely f'd. The outer lip is jacked up all the way around on one side and the inner spokes leading edge is worn down from prying/rubbing. The rear has a few big gouges on the inside about 2in from the lip. His tools must have slipped a couple time i guess.
How are you not holding this guy responsible for the damage. If it's as extensive as you describe, I'd be all over him. That's not normal wear from a tire change. Using the rim spokes as a fulcrum is not how it's done.

Not much I can do. Guy never answers his phone and hasn't been home when I went to see him again. Best I can do is ruin his name.
I will get him back believe me. I tend to wait things out then strike.
Have you brought it up on the site he is more active on? Bashing him here where no one will probably ever use him doesn't make much sense. You'd have been better off using Csmutty, if your location is accurate then he's not far from you.
