    Question Battery Tender?

    Hey,
A bit new to the area and find myself in search of a battery tender. I would prefer the fully-auto version that you plug in and it does it's thing on it's own.

I'm not too sure where to purchase one around here.
Any advice is appreciated and I live in Bellows Falls VT.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Get yourself a Schumacher battery charger. (Model# SE-1-12S) I recently picked up one at Advanced Auto. $30. Plug it in and forget it.
SE-1-12S - 1.5 amp Battery Charger Sheesh! They want $40!

    Re: Battery Tender?

FWIW, any 2amp charger should do the trick.

Just disconnect the battery when you trickle charge.

I use a selectable 2/ 10/ 50 amp and have yet to see an issue.

    Re: Battery Tender?

2amp I think is too much for tender, it is more like a charging current for our MC batteries. Buy the battery tender jr., I think they are available on amazon for like $30 (make sure you get th right voltage - most MC have a 12V battery). To maintain your battery you just need a trickle charge of 0.75A, but you also need it to be smart and stop charging when the battery is full. I also have a 2/10/50A battery CHARGER with the 50A being enough to jump start the bike or car (picked up at Sears on sale for $40). But, I only use it at 2A for about an hour if I happened to not have ridden my bike for a month and it is very cold outside. An MC battery should not be charged at more than 2A. I don't have a garage - given the choice, if I had a garage, I would stick a tenderer on it and keep it on continuously as it is supposed to really prolong the battery life.

    Re: Battery Tender?

This is what i use: Batterytender.com - Home of All Your Charging Needs Battery Tender PLUS! - 12V @ 1.25A

since i modded my undertail for exhaust, i had to move my battery (Yuasa YTZ7S), so its in the front underneath my oil filter. I hard wired the connection so i dont have to take off the plastics to get the tender on there.
I leave it on there constantly during the winter, even though its in my basement.
If its charging, the light will be red, once its 80%, the red light flashes, and once its 100% the green lights up.
never had a problem with Battery Tender Brand. Plus they have a great warranty

    Re: Battery Tender?

Note, Battery Tenders and some other MC specific chargers run at a higher voltage, which is needed for many of the maintenance free batteries in modern bikes. Car based chargers won't fully charge these batteries as they run the voltage too low.

Advanced Auto or any MC store, Battery Tender Jr...works like a charm...just make sure you disconnect the Batt from the bike
