    Bike lowered--kickstand height issue

co-worker of mine bought an '09 R6...it had been lowered about an inch before he bought it...the original kickstand is still on it. his problem-the bike is more upright and he's understandably concerned it has a better chance of a tip over than normal. he has been thinking of having the stand shortened...cut it, remove some length and reweld. I told him that may require someone who fabricates or at the very least someone good at welding, but it will cost him $$. he said he would look into getting one that is adjustable--telescopes, so to speak. I'm not sure something like that exists for an R6, or any bike for that matter. I've never heard of it. I suggested he look into a shorter stand from another make/model bike that has similar mounting position/hardware, etc. I'd appreciate some brainstorming/suggestions, or actual knowledge of how to remedy this for him. thanks in advance.

I just suggested that to him..he feels more comfy where it is height-wise, as he's more or less tippy-toeing it as it it. he's 5-5.

Yes, adjustable kickstands exists. Good ones aren't cheap.

Do you mean he's not willing to spend a couple of bucks to shorten the kickstand? If so, how is he prepared to BUY and adjustable kickstand???

Both cutting and welding and buying a shorter aftermarket stands are common fixes. Lots of drag racers do it. But, if it was me I'd look or some stock length links and raise it back up. It will probably be cheaper and definitely handle better.

    Re: Bike lowered--kickstand height issue

I just googled "2009 adjustable kickstand" : http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...-R6-Parts.aspx Several other options show up. But I bet there are shorter non-adjustable models for less $ as well.

Edit : should have refreshed the page. When I typed this, I thought I was going to be his only reply.

I have the stock kickstand off of my 06 R6... if he wants to give me like 20 bucks for it, he'll have a stocker he can modify without risk of ruining his only kickstand. It will also allow him to put the full length one back on if he ever decides to raise the bike. Let me know.

There are some people on the forum that might be able to help probably. If not, any decent shop could do it.

I can probably meet him in framingham on Monday evening to get the kickstand to him.

    Re: Bike lowered--kickstand height issue

i had talked with razee about doing mine at one point. I think they were saying it is like $100, they send it out to someone who does it for them. when my cbr was lowered i had a shortened stand, no issues. tell him to do something about it sooner than later rather than risking it fall over, happened to me a couple times
